<quoted text>Molly, allow me to flog you. First off, the press hasn't released the minor's name, don't do their job for them. I am not an idiot, I am a parent. I was also a first responder volunteer firefighter in another state at another time. I suggest you ride along with the Novato Fire Department and perhaps you'll be unfortunate enough to help cut a youth out of a sports car. I have, multiple times. The recurring theme: fast cars, sometimes alcohol and/or drugs, but most prevalent: fast cars. You do not hand a teenager the keys to a fast car. When I was in high school in the '80s, I wanted a street bike, a Ninja. Fast, smooth, sleek, etc. My father nearly slapped me in the head (as a retired cop he had seen his fair share of mangled kids on motorcycles). I was **** and had to wait until I was an adult to buy my own. I now ride within my boundaries and ride very cautiously, because I'm now mature enough to respect such a machine. Looking back 25 years, I can't thank my father enough. Speed kills (research the Lakeville crash from last week) bottom line. Could this have happened in a Corolla or a Prius? Sure, but when you're 18 and get behind the wheel of grandma's Lincoln, you just want to get where you're going without your friends seeing you. When you're 18 and get behind the wheel of a sports car, you want all your friends to see you and you want to get there fast. This could turn out to be just an unfortunate event, but if they were speeding on a road where a little girl was recently killed, then unfortunately they will garner little sympathy from neighbors and all of the cybertalkers. Good day.

Kyle, Thanks for the math lesson. She did state that the second individual was the 18 year old's brother, no? That means out of every 16 year old in the world, she has pinpointed which one it is, further backed by posters stating that 2 brothers were injured. He is a minor and his rights are protected as such, so quit being a badazz 19 year old recent graduate and start reading. Thank you.

3rd's the charm - When are people going to slow fricking down on San Marin Drive. What the hell is it going to take - 2 deaths in less than a year maybe more now!!! HELLOOOOOO people.... What's the hurry???
I am very concerned about the SPEEDING, AND DRIVING TO INTIMIDATE that goes on all the time on San Marin Dr. Where are the cops, and cops who call speeding and tailgating (also illegal) what they are?? I am tired of this...after all San Marin Dr is NOT Hgy. 101! Thanks, Lisa

And unless you plan on personally coming down from the Great White North to kick azz and take names, read futher into these posts. The basic jist of what is written revolves around speeding drivers (young or old) causing death and havoc for others. The kid at the wheel might have had a deer jump out in front of him, it may have been a simple tragic accident. Take a look at the photos, that car was going at a high rate of speed to have it wrap a tree like that. The poor passenger got the worst of it, and now that's on the driver's conscience. It comes down to responsibility; and the driver, it appears, showed poor judgement. I do feel bad for the family, I'll bet 99% of the other posters haven't seen parents arrive on the scene of their dead or mangled kid to go into hysterics (I have, several times), let me tell you, it isn't pretty. It's bad enough there are people out there driving shytefaced and high, but to add speed into the equation, at a busy business that breaks for lunch, midday, is questionable at best. PS Sorry the Sharks smoked the Sens the other night.

The school may need to change its open campus policy at lunch. There is really no where for these kids to go during that short break. The speed was probably a result of trying to get back to class before the bell rang. Allowing kids to go off campus during that short break just encourages them to speed.
Oh, come on! They still have to stop at the stop signs....speeding doesn't get us there any quicker....

To whoever wrote something mean and horrible on this page is rediculous, I am personally an 18 year old women and i know both the driver and passanger. You people are rude to say that it is there fault, and the "funny and stupid" comments can stop because these people are in serious condition, and im sure that if the family had read what you wrote they wouldnt be to happy with you either. I am personally disappointed with some of the posts i have seen on this story. Andrew(the older brother) was in a coma and is coming out of it, and is starting to be responisive, the younger brother Marco is in critical condition and ina coma also and has broken his pelvis and is paralized and on life support right now. So if you think this is just a stupid young kids driving accident it WASNT! and you should all feel bad for yourselves because you dont know how the family feels and how many people and kids are affected by this accident and the 2 kids that were in it! so fuck all the people who are hating against this family. and i hope that Andrew and Marco can pull through and make it back to the community and their family again. You will always be in my prayers. God Bless you guys.

Why were they transported to Marin General, when Novato Hospital is 2 minutes away?

Praying does nothing, so you might as well save your breath. Instead, maybe parents need to try a little PARENTING and teach their teens the skills necessary to survive in this world. Primary rule #1 when behind the wheel: obey the laws.
Do you know there parents? I didn't think so, so you have know idea what those boys were taught growing up! Well, guess what i do know and they are respecting good parents and as a mother to a 18 yr old myself all's you can do is hope that your kids listen to the things you have taught them in life! Do not blame the parent's in this situation!!!!

Novato isn't a level three trauma center, they can barely handle a sprained ankle. To get proper care, you need to be flown out of county to a level 1 or 2 trauma center, but Marin will never have one because the residents of Greenbrae consistently voice opinion against a helipad.

Umm, why don't you publish their dates of birth and SSNs for God's sake. The 16 year old is a minor, the media cannot release his name because he is not an adult. Don't breach his anonymity because you're too emotional to conduct yourself in a proper manner when it comes to someone else's confidentiality. People should not post hateful things; agreed.

I didn't realize they were this bad off and I really do take back any of my harsh comments earlier in this thread. Whether or not the driver was a punk (as someone claimed in an earlier post) or irresponsible and reckless is irrelevant at this point. What we're left with now is beyond tragic and I'm definitely sending positive thoughts their way. The staff at Marin General is great, and I'm sure they're doing everything they can.

I agree with another poster: where are the cops? Where my high school was, it seemed like there was a cop posted on every corner during lunch and after school. I personally hate the idea of speed cameras, but maybe they wouldn't be the worst idea on San Marin Drive given all that's been happening.

Duh, your eloquence and wit makes me smile. This is sad yes, but seeing as I drive the damn road twice daily (along with 37 but that's another story) I can't tell you how many times I've been tailgated and cut in front of from people trying to speed off down San Marin, where they are speeding off to I do not know, there is nothing in San Marin. I am sad that these kids got hurt, but I hope that it widens the eyes of other drivers (teens and adults) who don't think twice about speeding.

This is horrible.......it should had never happened. some of you were young once and you mean to tell me you didn't speed???? Stop with the comments of negativity and pray they survive. They happened to be brothers so the family is needing all the support you can give them with out all the trash talking.
I used to ride on the back of my older brothers motorcycle...he used to get 6 inches from their bumpers at 70 on the freeway...scaring into terror. We sped and did unsafe things daily. You are RIGHT. It is chemical thing...boys just do it.
What I am saying is...although we BOTH have spinal damage and bad knees from wrecks...we both live today. we both knew many non-survivors. There is a statistical reason why insurance costs so much for kids....
There but for the grace...
