Our shop is in Fowlerville, we became union not too long ago and we were told just the other day our shop is closing
July 2nd 2007. We either get to transfer for less pay and lose some of our benefits and we start from the bottom. Plus drive further. But we can claim for unemployement and start all over at another place. Too bad my 15 yrs are down the drain. Now my daughter is thinking about getting married and my other daughter will be graduating from high school and my son is going to college and he will have to change his plans and go shorter amount of time and change careers or just drop out and hope he can land on a good job that will take what little college he has.

I'm trying hard to figure out how you managed to get a salary increase; mainly because I had heard all counter offers had been rejected. Still, you need to look at the big picture on overall compensation. Plastech sucks because of all the extras they took away. 4.5% for 401k match, 2% for pension, 3.5% for increase in insurance coverage and an average loss of 3% in bonuses. That's at least 13% and that's why a lot of people are looking elsewhere. I'm glad I still have a job there, but only because it's paying the bills while I look for someplace I don't feel dirty working at. You've heard the Plastech stories right?
In general, most people want out. Turnover is at 16.5%
That cornhole Plastech HR lady said they were anticipating a 10-15% turnover. It brightens my day whenever I hear of someone quitting. I'm sure the percentage will continue to rise.
if you read a little closer i was talking about insurence increase..

Plastech is quite possibly the worst company, ever. As a former JCI employee (plant closed last June), we purchased parts from Plastech in Frenchtown. Their quality was HORRENDOUS. 2 buddies of mine were the QA manager and Qual Egr for a few months - they were on containment at virtually every Visteon plant they supplied, were being forced to work 12 hours, 7 days a week most of the time. They lied to their customers daily. Plastech is a joke. We're desourcing them at my present company even as we speak!

If you are offered a job at any of the Plastech plants, run, run, run away as fast as you can.
I worked for Plastech for 3 months and was so disgusted with the way the plant was managed that I got my old job back. Quality is a joke at Plastech. Just simply ask any of their customers. Or talk to any head hunter out there regarding Plastech. Plastech's mode of business is just run garbage without addressing any custmoer issues. Eventually the customer will get fed up and desource. Then Plastech picks up another unsuspecting customer and treats them the same way.
They have the largest turnover in history. People get hired in, realize what they have gotten themselves into and leave as fast as they can.

Well...it was a choice that was made for me-JCI transitioned into Plastech...what choice is there in Michigan...there aren't that many jobs out there...especially not in Holland-Hart and Cooley is set to leave in September-Con-Agra is closing down...

So, to pay the bills you have to go with what you are offered...

Plastech is just a job for me-just like JCI was-it's not a career...it's not my real life...it's what helps support what is real-reality is every minute I am not at work! And that time is as great as it has always been!

I have never yet worked for a union shop. What could the union do for us at this point? They were supposed to come in when we were still JCI-that was over three years ago-they never showed.

I heard that when a Plastech plant goes union-it generally gets shut down with in a years time-the equipment and jobs get sent to other Plastech sites...

I worked at plastech in Romulas,Mich for over two years. And before here two other suppliers, and in each case the managament of these plants were careless of the job. I have worked in two union shops and this is my third. the union can do so much, they can assist us in protecting our rights and assist in finding jobs. The management or the owners are the ones who cause us to lose our jobs. so far we had really hot days. The calls off are high. Plus we had 80 people lay off. The ones who call off are still doing it. Who fault is it? I am the breadwinner of my family, and i can't afford of call off due to the weather, and how i feel that day. Plus we always we people complaining about being there. when told punch out and go home, the look in their face is "why i need money". Yes management is messing up and the Owner needs to be made aware and yes my coworkers are messing up when they don't want to be there. I need my job.

i think that unions are that cats meow my father was in a union for 40 years retired ten years now, and now that he is having health issues his union is having fund raisers and helping him with the bills, his union always kept him employed.. HOWEVER the UAW doesn't do anything for you besides send you to the unemployment line. sure they might(if) get you a little more money but there union dues are some of the most expensive out there. but usually when they go in and ask for more money the contract get rejected then they go on strike then you get replaced or they close the shop down. My personal opinion is stay away from the uaw.

Compared to the plastic injection molding plant I work in - this place sounds like a dream. Start out is less than $10, I come home black from the dirt this place accumulates, we haven't had a bonus in over a year, yet our efficiencies are at their goal, scrap rate is down, etc. We are overworked and underpaid as we run any where from 2-4 presses in a night. Management is terrible. Even our first aid kit resembles how much they care for their employees - there is nothing in it. Organization is terrible - I have to climb over skids and boxes just to get away from my press. Turnover? I've been there a few months and I have seen over 2 dozen people come and go. I don't get insurance, well not yet anyways. We can't get our stuff together... hence the reason everyone is working a minimum of 50 hours a week. But you know what... it's a job and no matter how much it sucks, I get a paycheck every week and that is all that matters to my daughter and me.

I'm working at Plastech in Elwood, IN and let me tell you one thing- i have worked at several factories such as Red Gold, Mosey Manufacturing, Universal Music Group and nearly 85% of every factory job isnt going to be the job you dream of!! if you wanted a real job then you should have gone to college and earned it the right way. Plastech is squeaky clean compared to many machine shops i have been in. they are a minority workplace which i believe is a great thing in this American society. And if you are a good worker, not even great, then you have a very good chance of advancement at all levels of production. if you have time to get on the internet and cry over dimes and nickels then you have time to get out there and find a new job! thank you and good NIGHT

I work for Plastech 1 in Monroe. Mi and it is true that the quality issues are bad here, all the bosses care about is improving quality issues and having the quality auditors to do thier jobs while they sit on their asses and make them do thier dirty work for them, another issue came up that overtime is not being rotated like it should be, every week it is the same damn people working, so if anyone out there is looking to get hired in at the monroe plastech think again cause the union we have do not support our rights and they will screw you, unless you are an arab and they treat you better than anybody.

Well we are operating with a skeleton crew and now we are in the midst of one week lay-off...first time I have experienced this in 15 years. Plant supervisor continually use scare tactics to intimidate us making statements such as "to stay open we as management are willing to take a pay cuts etc.", currently our Plant Manager posted that we are loosing our contract for the RT and it will move to the United States-then we will probably be called back and work every Saturday for the next 3 months as management is pulled another way once again. Well I guess it is easy to do since the Leamington Plant has unsophisticated and inexperienced management and HR Director. I agree it seems that Mrs. Brown is kept in the dark when it comes to each plant and how they operate - if she knew how disfunctional this plant was she would certainly make changes!

Your last name must be Brown to make such claims.
Plastech is the most unprofessional company I have had the displeasure of working for. Here is some reality for you:
... Over $40K per day in scrap at one plant
... Human resources department that does not understand the benefits and will not work for you.
... Will promise the customer everything and deliver nothing of value
... Get the opportunity to be thrown under the bus by every corporate weasel trying to justify their own existence.
... You have to beg to get spare parts to keep the line running
Canuck in the D, you are full of shit!

I don't think the plant is closing because of the management or supervisors. Unfortuately the state of the economy has a lot to do with it. This plant made good parts and is one of plastech better plants.

I have worked for the plant for eleven years and since being bought by plastech we have never been run so horribly. Management issues a definite. Our quality was always good but after the take over it seems that everything has gone downhill. We were told they asked for concessions but the union chair was never even apporached on this. I have now been laid-off since Christmas and the future looks really bleak to me.

Several plants in the Holland area have been taken over by Plastec. The employees are give the "opportunity" to apply for their same jobs at lower wages and less benefits. I several people who work for JCI (or now Plastec) and the joke there is that the new company name should "Plastic Johnson". If you don't get that it means your are basically screwed.
