Home Depot to close Cottage Grove store, 14 others

Atlanta-based The Home Depot said today that it will close 15 underperforming U.S. stores including one in Cottage Grove as the housing slump deepens.

It's too bad but I have to admit I was surprised when it when in. There are a few other Home Depots right around there. I don't think Menards compares to Home Depot. The quality is 10 fold better at Home Depot.

I'm a fan of Menards but probably because the one by Midway is pretty nice & there is no Home Depot around. What are they going to do with that big building now? What a waste of space, hopefully C.G. can find use for the building. I know this is off the subject, but is the Drive-in out there officially closed this year? I hope not.

I know it would happen sooner or later. They built a small store and the Menards in CG is huge. Every time I drive by the parking lot is almost empty.

It's also in a terrible location. The Menards is much easier to get to, and like you said, much bigger.

a drop in the bucket for HD. It should've happened a while ago, but everyone keeps some low performing stores around just to keep the volume up.

In this economy you've got to cut those loose.

The drive-in is still open and open on Friday, Sat & Sun as of a few weeks ago.
I saw this coming as soon as they built it. CG can't handle both Menards and Home Depot. I wish they would put in a movie theater again. It doesn't have to be gigantic but I'm tired of going other places when the Drive-In has nothing I like.

The next time I am in the city baby sitting the grandkids I will come and see a movie with them if it is something they could watch. Drive Ins are going away too fast and should be patronized.

Yay, I'm glad to hear the drive-in is still open! I always go to Vali-Hi but I'm going to have to visit old Cottage View Drive-in a couple times this summer.
Alex you might have something there with the movie theater, there hasn't been a theater out that way in a long time $$$$$$$

Most folks I know prefer Home Depot. I also like Lowe's better than Menards.

Menards has a long way to go to achieve that goal. So far they have stores in only eleven states while Home Depot is global.
