Danger to buyers and recipients of gift cards from Home Depot. Home Depot not honoring returns with a receipt on purchases made with a gift card UNLESS you surrender your drivers license information. Home Depot will ask you and enter personal identification information into a data base(another place for hackers to steal personal information) Home Depot and others will go so far as to scan your drivers license.

How the heck is a government issued ID even allowed to be scanable to private business?

How the heck should companies like Home Depot even be allowed to even ask for the personal information on a drivers license and/or not tell exactly where it is going?

California only allows scanning personal government issued id incases of fraud, abuse or mispresentation.

How is returning an item with a receipt potential fraud, abuse or misrepresentation in any state?

The legal technicality of posting signs or putting return policy on receipt is a loophole that keeps these retailers out of trouble. Should that loophole even exist? Theoretically with that signing/disclosure technically a store could post a sign saying we will rob you blind by overcharging, price gouging and fixing prices in a non competitive manner.

This should be an example for legislation to prevent this type of personal information gathering/data mining.

Especially on returns with a reciept and unused merchandise-where the probable cause to suspect fraud, abuse or misrepresentation is suspect.

Caution Home Depot customers who want to purchase and/or use a gift card-gift card purchases returned with a receipt and unused merchandise will breach your privacy.
