These two women thought of a way to make a few bucks and get paid for
going on a fantastic vacation with money to spare, and finding a lawyer
willing to take the case, well, that would be as easy as finding other
prostitutes walking the streets of New York.

"Experts for Marriott and Ecolab have said the pesticide could not have caused the symptoms. A psychiatrist said the women's health problems were the result of stress"
Yeah... returning from a Hawaiian vacation, all stressed out. I really buy that one.

The reason: Pepto-Bismol. Thatís what gives you Black Tongue. You got to be kidding. A federal judge cant figure out that two people with different symptoms exposed one time to the same thing the Exterminators are exposed to dozens of times month after month with out the same or worst results are either crazy, liars or both is an outrage. Its so easy to make quick cash off the backs of the people in this world who have to deal with the public and their every whim. The sad part is Ecolab will end up paying for this because a big nasty Co. Has no chance with a jury fitting two poor little old ladies.
#4 Mar 6, 2009
boy, you just pulled that outta no where... that sure wasn't in the article anyway.
#5 Mar 6, 2009
Its in the artical.Read again.
"Back in Michigan six weeks after the trip, DeJonge, 51, told her doctor about drowsiness, a swollen tongue and pain in her joints. Gass, 56, complained of chills, blurred vision, muscle spasms and a black tongue".
#6 Mar 6, 2009
where does it say she took pepto bismal? oh wait... it doesn't.
#7 Mar 6, 2009
Now Tammy try reading my post again. I never stated the article said she took pepto. I was pointing out the fact that the only known medical cause for Black Tongue in the world is pepto bismal. And there is no documented medical case of any pesticide ever causing Black Tongue. Its called context.Nice try!
#8 Mar 7, 2009
no it's called assumptive guesswork. Are you a doctor, or just a pepto advertising rep?
and how do you explain the other symtoms? Oh right... you didn't
#9 Mar 7, 2009
Ah yes... looking at my bottle of pepto right now:
side effects include drowsiness, pain in the joint, chills, blurred vision an muscle spasms.
oh wait... it doesn't say any of that!
Although I honestly appreciate your problem sovling efforts, I must conclude you don't know what the heck you're talking about.

Thatís called being old and wore out from a fun filled trip to Hawaii. Not to mention that each woman had different symptoms. Thank you for proving my point that all of the strange symptoms are unrelated to a single cause. This often happens in cases of mass hysteria And if you had ever worked with poison control or read a M.S.D.S. you would see that there are very predictable and consistent symptoms associated with each and every chemical compound and pesticide known to man. Look I am not sure if you are trying to be serious or just rude. The fact is that people are hurt form miss use of pesticides, House hold cleaners and hundreds of other things in this world every day. But this kind of twisting of circumstances is what makes the rest of us pay more for Insurance, Health Care and so many other things. Wrong is wrong big Company or little old ladies .So next time some one hurts you or your family remember this. Your insurance your health care your vacation your rental car and donít for get that dangerous hot cup of coffee from McDonalds will cost you more because some one some where made it more expensive to provide your services to get the big pay day. The old expression donít worry there insurance will pay for it is why you cant afford health care on your own. Because the fact is Insurance pays the claim then raises its rates on the pest control to pay the law suit. The pest control raises its rates on the hotel to pay the insurance . Then the hotel raises its rates on you to provide the pest control you demand. Ok now even better if the hotel can no longer afford a Exterminator who is trained to do this service then the next person who sprays your room might just be the janitor and I say good luck with that one. This is the way life works and at the end of the day this usually ends up in less money to pay legitimate clams where people are really hurt from crap work by the scummy lo bidding trash pest control operators who are out there. If I thought for a second that this was caused by Ecolab I would say put them under the jail . Because it is wrong to put peoples life in danger through carelessness .So seriously are you trying to tell me you believe in the merits of this case or just typing to justify some deep seated beliefs
#11 Mar 7, 2009
well... I'd say you're pobably slightly too biased to serve on the jury, but I still trust the system. This case will go to court and experts on the subject (for both sides) will testify to side effects (or non effects) of these chemicals, and the jury will decide.
I just hope those experts remember to ask about the Pepto Bismal... it sounds like their whole case hinges on it!!!!!!!!!!
#12 Mar 7, 2009
If thatís the most dramatic side effect claimed I agree.I also think we would both would be off this jury. Although 95% of cases like this pay before ever getting to court because of the cost to defend. I wish we had a looser pays system. Unfortunately anyone can bring a case good or bad with out repercussions and for any one you me or business its just cheaper to pay out of court and get back to our lives. As for trusting the jury remember how well one did on th O.J. Simpson Trial.

Oh and BTW I think you could be on to something. Cause and effect. My brother is a Doctor an says Pepto-Bismol is been known to cause some peoples tongue and stool to turn black. This happens by separation of bismuth from salicylate, forming bismuth trisulfide in combination with the sulfur found in saliva. This Black Tongue condition should have happened about 6 to 12 hors after ingestion of pepto which shows she was having some kind of issue the night before the pest control treatment. Or maybe she was just swigging it for the taste. I kind of think your right this might be the key.

I'VE gotten a black tongue from Pepto Bismal before... but there is nothing in this article that says these women ever had any. the next time you jump to a conclusion, I hope it isn't straight off a cliff
#15 Mar 8, 2009
Wow if you can show me where I said that Pepto Bismal is in this article or in any other show me. Other wise you may what to lay off the drinks a little when Bloging. Who said that was in the article. Not me. I said the only known cause for Blake Tongue was pepto. So go back and reed it then show me the quote where I said that any one admitted to taking any thing. Maybe you missed the point but usually when some one has a bullet in them it can be assumed that have been shot. You donít need a jury to figure that one out. Looks like you jumped to your own conclusion.

[QUOTE who="Black Tongue]. Who said that was in the article. Not me. I said the only known cause for Blake Tongue was pepto.
I don't know anything about Blake tongue, as to what you said or didn't say, let's not dwell in the past.
why bother, when the present also shows what an idiot you are?

Black Hairy Tongue
The name -- black hairy tongue -- may sound scary, but the condition is actually harmless. Black hairy tongue is caused by bacteria or fungi in the mouth, which make the tongue appear black and hairy. It's easily remedied by good old-fashioned oral hygiene.
What causes black hairy tongue?
A black hairy tongue is caused by too much bacteria or yeast growth in the mouth. The bacteria build up on tiny rounded projections called papillae. These lie along the surface of the tongue. Instead of shedding as they normally do, the papillae start to grow and lengthen, creating hair-like projections. They can grow to 15 times their normal length.
Normally, the papillae are pinkish-white. But as they grow, pigments from food, drinks, and possibly the bacteria or yeast themselves get caught in the papillae, dyeing the tongue a color. Most often that color is black, hence the name. But the tongue can also turn brown, yellow, green, or a variety of other colors.
Certain lifestyle habits and conditions can make people more likely to develop black hairy tongue. They include:
poor oral hygiene
drinking a lot of coffee or tea
using antibiotics (which may disrupt the normal balance of bacteria in the mouth)
taking medications that contain the chemical bismuth (such as Pepto-Bismol for upset stomach)
not producing enough saliva
regularly using mouthwash that contains peroxide, witch hazel, or menthol
getting radiation therapy to the head and neck
Black hairy tongue is more common in men, people who use intravenous drugs, and those who are HIV-positive.
What are the symptoms of hairy tongue?
Other than the appearance of the tongue, most people with black hairy tongue don't have any symptoms or feel any discomfort. The exception is when there is too much growth of the yeast Candida albicans, which can cause a burning sensation on the tongue. This burning sensation is called glossopyrosis.
Some people complain of a tickling feeling in the back of the roof of the mouth, a nasty metallic taste in their mouth, or nausea. In more severe cases, the condition may lead to a gagging feeling. Sometimes, food getting caught inside the extra-long papillae can cause bad breath.
How can I get rid of black hairy tongue?
Practicing good oral hygiene is the best way to treat black hairy tongue. Gently brush your teeth twice a day with a soft toothbrush. Also, brush your tongue. You can use a tongue scraper to make sure you're thoroughly cleaning the area. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help keep your mouth clean.
Other tips include:
If you smoke, quit.
Add more roughage to your diet. Soft foods won't clean off the tongue effectively.
Call your doctor or dentist if the problem doesn't get better on its own. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or an antifungal medication to get rid of the bacteria or yeast. Topical medications, such as tretinoin (Retin-A) are also sometimes prescribed. As a last resort, if the problem doesn't improve, the papillae can be surgically clipped off with a laser or electrosurgery.
hmmmm... nothing about pepto bismal

I bet to differ with these statements. There are generally known reactions to many chemicals and pesticides but I personally know that each person reacts to chemicals differently. As someone who once sprayed pesticides and also had to go through chemo (95% sure the two are unrelated, as much research as I've done!). I'm not saying your fully wrong, but I can't support your statement that all chemicals have the same reactions to them. And yes, I'm familiar with MSDS, but I'm also a human being who's had reactions to medication that others haven't had before. C'est la vie.

Tammy Alas so young and slow you had me at hello!(LOL) The information was there all along .Its about time you actually looked it up!Of course its not the only cause for black tongue. How many times did you post with out even trying to know what you are talking about. Proves my point ! Judge or jury or little old ladies your emotions are always first and thatís why people pay out of court.Facts are not as compelling as two poor little old ladies. Thank You for the demonstration it just may help us with the case. "Ad quaestionem facti non respondent judices; ad quaestionem legis non respondent juratores"
