Lowe's sets aside $5 billion for share buyback

It's the same thing Nardelli did at HD--a number of stock purchases to artificially inflate the value of HD stock.

The money is not set aside, it has been authorized to spend. Most buybacks are never fully executed but initiated to do a couple of things:
1 Place a floor under the stock price and let everyone know Corporate is willing to support it.
2. utilize our capital in a manner that the board feels gives them the best value and bang for the buck.
3. Actually increase our earnings per share as our future earnongs wil be spread over fewer share outstanding.

O.K. move, but I'd rather have a dividend increase or a raise.
