I suppose that the same could also be said of people - big, hairless bipedal rats that cause more harm than Grackles (or any other nuisance bird) do. At their worst Grackles are only a mere annoyance. It's good for us that there isn't an organism on this planet higher up the heirarchy than us, cause we'd be in a world of trouble.
dang lady quit takin this so seriously...we're talking about friggin birds here.

As I have spent years studying birds and working on bird banding projects I'll just pretend you didn't make the statement that "we're talking about friggin birds here."
Education=appreciation. And I sure do find birds a lot more interesting and appreciate them a lot more than I do most people.
Birds in general are some pretty amazing creatures, and the more I learn, the more I appreciate them. For instance, during migration the Blackpoll Warbler would get 720,000 miles per gallon if it were burning gasoline instead of body fat. You wouldn't say "we're talking about friggin birds" if you took the time to learn, observe and appreciate them - which I don't expect you to do.

Dee, I can't help myself but I think your thoughts are "for the birds".

My thoughts and beliefs about birds work for me, and for others who have taken the time to educate themselves and therefore have developed an apreciation of avian species, and really that's all that matters to me. In this world it is the word of the educated that truly matters, not those uneducated about the particular subject in question. Giving a child cough medicine does not make a person a doctor. Having a car pooped on by a bird does not make a person an expert in avian matters. Good day.

Hey, don't go away mad, I was just having fun, you know the saying "for the birds" and you like birds so your are "for" the birds. You know, double meaning. Just because we disagree on some subjects doesn't mean I would attack you here, hell, I like birds. Hope there's no hard feelings.

No hard feelings here, sorry for the snappy remark (although in prinicple I do stand behind it all 100%). I mistook your comment of "for the birds" as being the traditional meaning of crazy or ridiculous, instead of literally in favor of the birds - I suppose an honest mistake considering I was the only person here with anything good to say about these birds. Very witty though, I commend you, and glad you enjoy birds as well.
What it boils down to is that birds are just doing what birds do, and in the case of the Grackle their normal, typical behavior does not mesh well with what people want their world to be. Now, if killing something simply because it annoys you is the way to go about doing things, I've had a lot of neighbors in my lifetime that have been quite loud and annoying, much more so than any bird I've encountered - I just never knew the answer was to pick them off or put poison out!(:

My firm Fort Worth Pest & Termite Services and it's sister firm Texas Bird Services performs bird abatement throughout Texas, and have effectively relocated most of the Grackles in downtown Fort Worth for the last 3 years. We do not harm the birds in any way! There are many tools, but high-powered lasers have proven to work best. No tool will work however if you don't have licensed, state certified, and experienced technicians with the skill and training to manipulate whole flocks of migratory birds. It takes literally daily (nightly) and intense labor to be successful, along with the previously mention things. Good Luck to all who tries! My firm can be reached at 1.888.TEX-BIRD or www.TexasBirdControl.com
