That is absolutely absurd. Why don't we ask the other families for contributions for looking for their loved ones that were missing. Are you kidding me????!!!! It is not her fault that THE STATE is in a fianacial crisis. The state officials need to look at they're doing with the budget before seeking help from a widow. It is not her responsibility to fund the state.

It sure is absurd and fishy...First of all, by what stretch of the imagination is $400,000 going to help an almost billion dollar deficit? Secondly, they didn't find him...so, nofinders fee. Third and most important, I'm poor and she's probably loaded to the gills...but c'mon now Gov, it is in really poor taste, to (1)bill the grieving widow and (2)air it in public!? What kind of boob are you?

Well, the story says he didn't bill the widow but will send her a letter asking for money.

How many lost people from poor families, or non-famous people, do you know that get month-long searches, though? Considering Mr. Fossett's multi-millonaire status, I can't see how $487,000 will effect the lifestyle of the widow in any way, and I'm sure she appreciates all the help given by the search crews. Maybe she could think of it as a contribution in honor of future searches for "poor" unknowns.
