Cheapest Groceries? Wal-Mart, Costco, 99 Cent Stores, Dollar Tree, etc.

Is there any research or articles on the cheapest place to purchase typical groceries (such as food, meats, dairy, toilet paper, soap, cleaning products, etc)?
I have a costco membership which I use occasionally, but I've noticed substantial price increases on many products over time and am not sure if it's the best bang for your buck. Does anyone know who sells the absolute CHEAPEST groceries per unit? I'm not looking for fancy, but rather just no-name brand products that do the trick. Money is real tight and any amount saved certainly adds up over time. Thanks!
