The big union grocery stores are dinosaurs. The 70's strike waas a major inconvienience, but a strike by Giant and Safeway now would be immaterial. In Harford County we have Mars, Kleins, Weis, Redners. Who needs Giant and Safeway?

Weis always has better prices and excellent quality. The employees of Giant and Safeway would probably be better off if the ditched the union and it's dues.

Why back down. Unions are no longer needed. They are taking dues that members need while doing nothing but supporting democrats that continue to spend taxpayers money on socils engineering that doesn't work. Safeway and Giant need to let them strike and see how they respond without a paycheck.

All of you are way off base because if it was you in this position how would you fell when you put all your effort and time into the work you do and then Giant or Safeway wants to turn around and pay you $8.00 an hour and then turn and charge you for benefits and work you six days a week. If all of you want to keep talking then why don't you go down and get a job at Safeway or Giant or any other grocery store for that matter and I will guarantee you that your outlook on life will change, because one thing it will teach you is how to treat people that do nothing but want to help you, but yet you cry and go off on them because the store didn’t have some stupid product you want. When you have to deal with whinny customers like yourselves I’m sure what do you expect.

Welll..I'm quite concerned to see this is how people feel about my company & my union. I would much rather pay a minimum weekly due than be subjected to the treatment of those fine folks that work at such places as Walmart: min. wage...no healthcare...no pension...no seniority
Suddenly my weekly dues seem so important huh!
And a little FYI: we still get paychecks even if we strike...just a smaller portion; but it's all worth the outcome!

For tour information, all positions at our place of business have the ability to turn into a career. Those folks you see wothin our store walls choose not take the opportunity offered to them, however there is plenty of room to move up & excel in excellent careers. If ignorance is bliss,then there are a boat load of you that are in heaven!The contract keeps the employees safe unlike the morons who can't stand unions who ,don't get a raise or health care guaranty or job security.

Do you really think things have improved and workers are paid fairly? That is WHY Unions will always be needed!!!, because greed in owners and Managers has not changed in history They will pay us as little as possible if they can get away with it.

Just go ask I.G.A. or Walmart workers what they get paid compared to Safeway seasoned workers!! That's because Walmart and others like them have no Unions.!!!
