Cerberus has to hold on to Shaw's and the other banners they acquired from Supervalu for 18 months - after that, all bets are off. Keep that timeline in mind with all the changes they are making. Bottom line - they are NOT making any long-term investments.
why do they have o hold onto it for 18 months?

There's said to be a restriction in Cerberus's banking agreements that prohibits the sale of what are termed "key assets" during that 18-month window. Of course, that doesn't prohibit the banners, Shaw's included, from shuttering certain underperforming stores during that time period. This has happened already, of course, and I would't be surprised to see more rounds by the time that 18 months is up.

Re: Biddeford, why was corporate up there? Checking on Market Basket, or seeing what Biddeford can do to better compete?

I am not really sure why corporate was in our store. Everyone is trying to be very quiet about things. I do know the President was in our store before Labor day and the VP during the holiday weekend. Still every other week we have specialists in our store, we are constantly having to cut hours, and the only part of our store that gets much business right now is the Pharmacy. This big hush, hush meeting in Mass. on the 22nd and brought rumor after rumor that Biddeford, Scarborough, and Sanford are on the chopping block.

Biddeford is a no-brainer, and Sanford is an overstored market, but Scarborough is a head-scratcher as it's in an upscale suburb and the store seems to be pretty busy every time I visit.

People can mark my posts as spam, clueless, or whatever. I know what I am talking about. I am obviously not going to post my actual location. If we are on this site, what makes you think it is not monitored by people in corporate? I have worked for Shaw's for over 15 years. I see and hear things from all over. Yes, Biddeford is a no brainer. It's location is horrible. It has nothing else to offer in its location and has become the largest convenience for people getting off the turnpike after work. And according to sources, Biddeford was scheduled to have more company in it's store Saturday.

What the heck is up with the no schedule posted until mid afternoon on Sat? Called at 11:30 am no schedule. Had to call after 5:30 and even then the csm was not sure of my schedule but then said what she thought was my schedule and told me she would call me if it changed. This is NOT good. Oh and who fires a manager because he doesn't have that stupid Rachel Ray display stuff set up for the launch. Happened in Sudbury.

I heard that store manager was fudging his numbers to hit hs labor budget and that's why he got fired. I am not surprised though, these people have way to high expectations put on them with no labor to do it!

Ok so I am thinking the person who is judging everything incendiary doesn't know the meaning of the word. All posts that talk about the truth are not incendiary. Whoever is doing this, look up the word.

I agree, it depends. If you are unemployed right now and they are going to pay you your old rate and you get all your vacation back. I would. If they are just bringing you back at a cut and possible "seasonal help". I'd look else where for job.

Hey Can, need to cover your assets. If you don't go, would you lose your unemployment?

That was my thought too. If you're on unemployment and Shaw's is the employer charged with your claim, you put your eligibility at risk by refusing work.

Depends what department u would be going back to! If you were a grocery clerk I would look elsewere! The new R.E is 70 cases an hour! The industry standard is 50-57 cases . The prez is getting some poor information from somewhere unless the goal is to get people to quit or fire them for poor performance. Then they can hire 2 people for each f.t person they get rid of.
Sure to go

The more that quit, the less they have to pay in unemployment!
