There will be more closings as soon as they see the stores in MarketBasket country in NH. There are a lot of low volume stores but they can be profitable I guess!! Salem, Windham etc

I really don't get the timing of these closures. They are undermining their turnaround message by giving up on these stores just a week or two after the changes. It's fairly obvious that these were targeted before the rollout, so why not get the pain out of the way beforehand?

The timing of this just so happens to line up with the union stores contract. Stores close august 3rd
union contract is up august 3rd.
all six stores were union.
I agree with the fact that it doesn't help their image. With the new promotion. The new fresh look.
Even worse is the fact that some of those stores were up in sales do to the new promotion and lower prices. They didn't give time in those stores.

Shaw's (and other competitors) may have just caught a break; imagine Market Basket trying to compete with a $1.5 billion monkey on its back

Could I have that in English?:) But seriously, a growing number of employees and customers are imploring the board to pull the company from the abyss:

We're only continuing the thread under the same title to keep all the posts in one place. And who knows, once Cerberus separates the wheat from the chaff, Kroger could end up owning us after all (if they don't get Market Basket first!) By all means, keep the rumors coming as long as you think they pass the smell test.

Has anyone heard anymore about more store closings? We have had a few new people transfer into our store. We got a new Asst. Store Director after not having one for 3+ years, a new grocery manager and an assistant grocery mgr. We also swapped out our csm with another store. Lots of activity.

My store has been crawling with activity. Lots of specialists and the DM has been in our store a lot lately. Supposedly to help prepare us for MB opening up the road from us. We have also transferred our Store Director, Assistant store director, Grocery manager, Bakery manager, and Assistant bakery manager.

A lot of transfers in my store too. A senior store manager in my district just quit. Business is up but we don't have the staff to handle it. I did hear rumors about more store closings but nothing concrete. Still cutting labor. The new shaws seems a lot like the old shaws.

The second quarter ends at the beginning of Sept. I wonder if some decisions will be made then. Our store director is also new because the previous manager quit as did our grocery manager and one of our night closers. Do they know something we don't. The managers keep taking help from the front end to put in grocery (especially csr's ) and then bitch about lines at the registers as if we have an unending supply of people and can make them appear at will.
So sick of the uncertainty.
