Kroger Buying Shaw's?
skeptical shopper

Shaws sent out emails to customers a few hours ago, teasing to come in on Fri & see something 'fresh'.

I also saw the new flyer somewhere online.

I was not impressed. Seems all we shoppers will get is lots of new garish signs all over and no substantially lower prices. I drive 7 miles beyond my closest Shaws to shop at Market Basket, doubt that will change much.

So I have seen the flyer and there is really nothing to write home about. Everything has the same sale price as I have seen in the store in the past weeks. Yes we are getting rid of the card and that's good but lower prices? not really seeing it. the coke products at 5 for $10 is good though. Other stuff, not so much.

OK we got the new shirts and the "vests" today. Could someone explain how we are suppose to be upbeat when we are wearing THE most drab olive green shirt with a black collar and green stripe. Covered with what is suppose to be a vest which looks like a cobblers aporn with pockets. Good news is I no longer have to tuck in my shirt be cause the "vest" is so long that you can't see that it is un-tucked. YUCK!!!
Big ole' waste of money.

We can't even get ours until tomorrow. People who are off tomorrow can't get theirs unless they come in on their day off. This company is so bad and clueless!

Ours aren't being distributed til Friday, the day we're supposed to be wearing them! Would be nice to be able to wash them first.

You really will need to wash the shirts, they feel gross and cheap. We had lots of problems because they did not tell the women that the sizes were different. The tan shirts were mens shirts and we all ordered the size we were wearing, the new shirts are womens shirts which no one told us and now the shirts are all too small and we don't have any extras to give out. Had they not waited till the last minute, this would not be a problem. Stupid Shaw's!!

All I can say is, my local store's staff is universally happy about the changes, including the new uniforms! Maybe they're just drinking the Cerberus Kool-Aid, but if that's the case, they're putting on a good show. We'll see about pricing, but the customer service has definitely improved.

That is great that you are seeing an improvement. The only changes I see are the uniforms and getting rid of the Shaws card. I hope this starts to bring in more customers, I guess we will see tomorrow. I am not getting my hopes up too much. We've had really good sales over the past few weeks, yet no increase in customers. We are right between Price Chopper and Market Basket.

False advertising once again. We did not lower any prices just put a dangler up to say everyday low price which it isnt. We should be ashamed to say that $4.99 for a jar of Hellmanns is a low everyday price in my store. Last night as I was blocking my milk dept a customer left a handwritten note on our half gallon hood milk (which is an incredibly low everyday price of $3.19)$2.49 AT TARGET got a nice laugh at that. Who are we kidding??

They are using the same tactic the Unted States Governent is using: just keep repeating the same old lines of B.S. and lies and eventually the sheeple will believe you ...not any more.It is all gonna come crashing down and then it will be too late!!

Not actually true, I shopped yesterday and while our prices are not as low as say Walmart, they are better. We did have some really good sales items too. We were much busier yesterday than we had been. People were really excited about the no card deal and everyone was having a good time. There was a lot of conversation and laughter in the store and it was actually kinda fun. Working the service desk actually went by fast for a change, I was really pleasantly surprised. Hope we hold on to some of these return customers. A lot of positive remarks were made to me.

I agree with you Barbara. I went shopping last night and the staff seemed very enthusiastic and chatty. It was a nice experience. The sale prices were very good, I thought. In fact, they were so good, there were a number of empty shelves in the bread and cereal areas. That was good to see. I haven't seen empty shelves at Shaws in a long time.

I don't see any improvements as far as the employees go. Management sets the tone for the store. Employees seem over worked, unhappy. Heard they were threatened to be sent home if not in uniform. Saw several workers not in dress code. Sale prices are repeats.

Yes we sent one bagger home for not being in uniform. BUT to be fair we were all told what was expected and the results if we did not show up in full uniform. Yes we also have some employees who are overworked and unhappy. I am hoping things will get better for them (grocery) as the BIG push is over and we settle in to everyday stuff. We are still waiting for a grocery manager so that will be tough for a week or two for the others.

Oh and a repeat of a good sale is STILL a good sale. I personally saw many lower prices than last week. Plus our last few sales flyers were really good. This one was not as good but still had a few gems. We are much cheaper on Coke (Market Basket 3/10 PC 5/11) Corn (PC 5/2 Stop& Shop 10/2) There were some others I can't remember. Also Market Basket only had their own store brands of hot dogs and sausages on sale, no name brands so no comparison.

Why threaten with the dress code and then not enforce it? Makes for hostile work environment....

I just gt my flyer for the weekstarting july 5th til the 11th..Some vry goos prices ..Finallly someone got offtheir butts and did some actual work
I am not trying to nit pick as this is the best flyer I have seen from shaws in years , but the meat buyer still has part of his head stuck up his ass,
on the front page he has london broil [shoulde steak boneless] which is the cut you are suppoed to use fr london broil. as most of us know, London broil is not a cut of mea but a way of cooking a cut of meat. Mot often it from a boneless shoulder a fore quaer piece of meat with lots f flavrand very good if marrinated and ooked in your oven using the broilerorore often on grill outside.
Then on the next page he offers us bottom round steak for london broil .. hat is sheer stupidity on his part and an attempt to trick either the less educated as far as cuts of meats go or he is trying to make etra money ... Never use bottom round for london broil .also they ofen offer top round steak for london broil as well, a trick that hnnafords uses all the time ... this is a terrible cut of meat and should be used for anything other than steak... it doesn't evn make good hamburg because it is hind quarter beef and aks any marbeling and taste and it could be used for stew meat and aybe hamburg as long as uyu mix it with someforequuarter meat ..also spli chicken breast.. bone i at $29 ???? this is a rip off ....
ou seemed o be doing so well with this flyer and then you go and pull thee same old dirty tricks... shame on you

I am afraid that we are not really becoming competitive. The adds have been better but in doing so e price changes some prices are still going up and by a lot! Also many prices have been going up for the last few months. Raising prices just so you can lower them and say you have lowered prices on thousands of items won't fool anyone if the prices aren't competitive. Time will tell. Customers will come for good prices but they won't be fooled!

So begins the the Cerberus takeover of shaws. Store closing announced I believe they are all union

http://www.ufcw791.org/

If you all followed the Cerberus takeover of Albertsons there were many store closing off the bat and progressively more as time went on.
