Good riddance to Albertsons. However, less competition = higher prices

I don't know which one you shop at but the Albertsons in Apopka on 436 is cleaner and cheaper than Publix.

My husband has worked for them for 8 years. They just found out a couple hours ago! They have to through the application process for publix now if they want to keep a job. If Publix does not offer them a job then they get a severence package of one weeks pay per year they've worked there. I'm worried about our health insurance. I worked for Albertson's for 3 years around the time they sold to the company that owns them now. The good news is there will be liquidation sales soon. The bad news is my husband may be out of work in September.

Some will close, and some will restock as publix instead.

I agree with others, this can't be good for consumers. In my area (near Red Bug and Tuskawilla) there is Albertson's and Publix directly across the street from each other. Until a Wal-Mart Grocery came into the mix a few years back by building right down the road, they were the only choices. If Albertsons closes (which I expect), not only will we have a vacant building, but also no competition for Publix in the area of quality grocery stores.

Wal-mart is significantly cheaper and okay on most pre-packaged items, but their quality is inconsistent and their fruits and meats are no where near as good in quality or variety as what you get at Albertsons or Publix.

I really don't understand why the government regulates monopolies and stimulates competition in some instances, but in cases like this seems to turn a blind eye as competition dwindles and prices increase.

My husband and I both worked for Publix, my husband in mgmt for them, and they will do everything they can to keep Albertson's employees. Publix is quite honestly one of the best companies I ever worked for.

Publix has gone downhill lately, although they still have the best bakery. They stopped carrying a lot of stuff that I would regularly.

Me and a coworker we're just talking about how nasty that same Albertson's is, and that we drive right past it to shop at Publix.

I got to the Starbucks inside the Heathrow one almost every morning, I assume that will be gone now too. I've never seen one inside a Publix before, so I doubt they will keep it. Hopefully they put another one up close by.

Well, some of these are South Florida, some on the gulf coast, some North Florida.

Compared to the grocery stores in Minnesota to Florida. I prefer the stores in Minnesota for selection, quality, cleaniness, and service. Florida grocery stores have very limited product at high prices unless you shop at Sam's Club. I agree Walmart does not carry good produce even in Minnesota. Here he have 15 different grocery stores that I can name quickly. Most of them are all very large stores with wonderful products including the ones that carrie products from other countries.
