for those of you that dont like the store instead of whining about it how about you just dont shop there. hmmmmm duhhhhh simple concept. and if those that are complaining have extra money hell give it to those who need it. some of us dont have the luxury of wasting 20.00 on a big steak when you have small children, deadbeat ex's and bills and jobs that dont pay what you need them to you have to find a way to pinch pennies whereever you can. so stop complaining about the store if you dont like it and just leave it alone. and before anyone replies with a "witty" comment (rolls eyes) no i dont live in the slums, no i dont have roaches and no i certainly dont recieve food stamps. if you have nothing better to do than complain about a grocery store here is a bit of advice. GET A LIFE!!!!!!

Watch out for the spoiled meat with green spots and gristle hidden inside. The meat looks good under the lights but a different story when you get it home.
Soft vegetables that taste like rubber. Much of the freezer section has goods with freezer burn.

I've read all of these comments and I'm really surprised. The store I go to is clean, produce is fresh, haven't bought any meat, but have been pleased with everything I have purchased. I actually go there to purchase certain items. I have talked to others that say the meat is good and they only shop there. I guess to each his own, and if you don't like shopping there then you shouldn't. Everyone it seems has had some type of experience good or bad one place or the other. And no I don't live in a slum or use food stamps.

"Ghetto Store" Wow you snobs really need to get a grip!!! The food is the exactly the same as it is at food lion. Only alot cheaper!!!! The Meat is not old, as a matter of fact its great, much much better quality than Wal-mart which sucks!! So what if its not fancy, or you have to put your groceries in a box. At the end of the day, for those of us who really dont want to pay for atmosphere but want to be able to feed our familys its a wonderful change!!!! And one more thing since when does it make Fruit Loops taste better because when they are purchased on a red carpet. So people please ignore the snobs, On my first shopping trip I filled up my trunk with a weeks groceries of $54 bucks,$54 bucks!!! Thats a bargain. Way to go Food Lion!!!!!!!
EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING SO NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT THE $54 SAYING SHE BOUGHT BOOZ AND SMOKES AND PAID WITH A FOOD STAMP CARD LEAVE HER ALONE THATS WHY THIS IS AMERICA SHE CAN HAVE HER OWN OPINION AND AS FAR AS THE FOOD STAMPS GO YOU DONT KNOW HER SITUATION I HAVE SHOPPED THERE AND THE FOOD QUALITY IS GREAT SAME AS FOOD LION GET A GRIP AND PULL YOU NOSE OUT OF YOUR ASS AND WAKE UP EVERYONE DOESN TLIVE IN A CONDO ON THE BEACH FRONT OR HAVE MONEY TO JUST SPEND AND ITS GOOD FOR LOWER INCOME PEOPLE WHAT ABOUT THE SENIOR COMMUNITY AND COLLEGE STUDENTS IM SURE THEY WERENT FOCUSING ON YOU SNOBBY CONDO LIVING PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO FEEL LIKE A SMALL GROUP OF FRIENDS NOT SHOPPING THERE WILL PUT A HUGE DENT IN THE BUSINESS OF A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPANY WAKE UP....

Now I am a person who shops at all types of stores...from dollar stores and Wal-Mart to stores like Dillard's and Nordstrom. I been in Bottom Dollar. Their look doesn't not impress me. It does feel ghetto and their meats are not of good quality. What they do to get people in there is have a few items at low prices and thats how they going to make it. Most of their items are the same price as Food Lion...and if they are cheaper...its only by like 2-5 cents. Oh and the selection is limited and horrible...I mean there are so many things that you can't get at Bottom Dollar that you could get at better quality grocery stores. I like Wal-Mart, because they don't discriminate against communities like Food Lion's parent company and put Bottom Dollar in not so desireable areas.

Why would they put one of these Ghetto Marts in Lee Hall? When it was a Food Lion, it was one of the better stores.

Bottom Dollar in Lee Hall? That's disgusting. But it goes along with the same mentality that would make Hampton want to put a Target at its new Peninsula Town Center or more greasy spoon Crab Shack or burger bars at the "Power" Plant. Nothing powerful about that?

This is really sad. How much low quality and low end retail does Norfolk/Portsmouth and Hampton Roads need? Its sad that when I go to shopping centers like JANAF and malls like Military Circle that all I pretty much see is low end retail. When I was in Portsmouth, when I would go to Victory Crossing(which used to be Tower Mall), it would be sad to see that the shopping center is full of ghetto and low end retail. Why is it that I have to drive to Virginia Beach for better stores like Kohl's and Best Buy? Why do I have to drive to Richmond for upscale and quality malls like Short Pump and Stoney Point? I can't even believe people talk about there not being enough cheap low end stores when Norfolk and Hampton Roads have plenty. I mean all you see are Payday loan stores, cash advance, dollar stores, thrift stores, flea markets, weave/beauty supply stores, ugly tire and old car lots, and just a bunch of old very ugly buildings. Now Food Lion's parent company want to turn a bunch of Norfolk Food Lions to Bottom Dollars. What a shame? Thats why we will not get quality grocery stores like Harris Teeter, Fresh Market, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. And all Bottom Dollar going to do is attract thugs and undesireable clientel. The meat is horrible and the store isn't cheaper than Food Lion. At least Save-A-Lot you actually save money but this ugly dump really makes Norfolk retail amenities more of a joke than they were. I really can't wait until I move from Norfolk, which is a very low end city.

Yeah Virginia Beach has Oceana, Newport News have Fort Eustis and Hampton has Langley...but all three cities, especially Va Beach and Newport News have much better retail offerings than Norfolk and Portsmouth. I mean drive down Little Creek Road, Military Hwy (especially north of Robin Hood Road), Airline Blvd, Victory Blvd, Tidewater Drive, Frederick Blvd, George Washington Hwy, and Ocean View Ave and you will see ugly streets full of retail. And even Virginia Beach is lacking alot of good retailers but it is 1000 times better than Norfolk.

Some of these posts are crazy, there are good deals there and bad ones, personally im all for the good ones and it helps me alot as im disabled and can get the same spice here for a dollar that cost 4 dollars in a normal store, bacon is another good example and the list goes on of items purchasable that are alot cheaper, now my opinion on alot of you. Although im not yet on food stamps I will be soon with no choice, however if I wish to spend my entire military check on wine and beer and food on food stamps I earned that right as did alot of men and women in the hampton roads area. The bottom dollar in Hampton is in one of the best areas in Hampton and not in a slum as several of you have called them. People in America end up poor and homeless for various reasons, I agree alot of them bring it on themselves however an extremely large percentage do not and are thankful for a much cheaper way to shop.

I have to admit that Bottom Dollar has better prices, but I'm just tired of getting stopped EVERY TIME by someone begging for money. I've had customers leave full shopping cart to approach me asking for gas money! All I want is to go shopping in peace and not have to fight around the begging bums. I've been shopping at this store for years without problems, that is until the conversion. And no, I don't believe that someone who smells like alcohol and begging for money is interested in gas or bus money.
If I'm a 6'-5", 230 lbs male and they harass me, then how would they treat my wife?

Glad you brought that up Mike. Food Lion in general seems to allow this activity. The one in Oyster Pt has em as well. Usually some welfare hoochie has the Little kid beg to everyone that comes in. That’s why I refuse to shop there. Doesn’t management realize that runs off business? The fact they are inside the store tells me its condoned by management.

Well that would be your personal situation, and more power to ya! But speaking for myself, I’m not a broke loser, not on welfare and I don’t wear a grass skirt. I work hard so I can afford decent food for my family. And also to shop in a respectable place that doesn’t scream “GHETTO”!

Feeding your kids Fruit Loops? Then you are ghetto. No wonder you like bottom dollar.
As we can see even if you are a snob you still can't read. She said "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE HOW MUCH THE FOOD COST IF IT IS THE SAME MEAT?" I think it's a great idea for the environment that they don't just give away bags that will be thrown away in the trash anyway. What is the big deal. Are you upset at the store or the crowd it brings to "YOUR" neighborhood

I can see none of you really know what the ghetto is. I do know if any of you come to the ghetto you would never last. So before you begin to put people down for what they chose to do in life, remember, THIS IS JUST A GROCERY STORE!!!.
