Quicksand of Bethlehem,

From I-78 to the Sands it is already planned and in the works . The ugly concrete overpass and all the homes on the SS are already vacated. Do you really think that will aleviate any traffic problems on the already overcrowed roads. NUTZ.

The name should have been Bethlehem Steelz Your Money Casino/Resort
Ha! Great name!

In reality, some consultant or marketing expert (pehaps some artsy woman with red-framed half-glasses) was paid a ton of money to come up with a name as dull and obvious as the one they've agreed on...something is wrong with this world if that person makes more money than a policeman or teacher.

I can't wait for the casino to open. It will bring jobs to our area and tax revenues.
Yes, The casino will bring employment to the city and improve the land that was being wasted, but the jobs will be more or less maintenance and house cleaning jobs for the locals. For the jobs that deal with operations and make money those will go to all of the people who have been glad handing and courting Vegas. Many of the requirements is experience for the casino jobs and unless people in Bethlehem have been working in casinos they are not going to see those jobs. But at times like these any type of work is good work.

I saw the plans for improving the sidewalks etc as part of the one way pairing but my question is what are they going to do about the old Getty Mart lot and the Ye Old Tavern or whatever that barrel says? I think someone should buy that building, fix it up, get rid of the barrel and put a big screen TV up there in its place. Times Square-Bethlehem.
Laugh, but it would be a heck a lot better than what it looks like now.
Michelle - you just got the idea of the year - cool!!!!!!!!

Baden Baden, Germany; Harrogate, England; Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic; Palm Springs, CA; Bath, England; Veneto, Italy; Lisdoonvarna, Ireland; Ballater, Scotland; Foix and Lourdes in the Midi Pyrénées, France/Andorra, Bali, Indonesia, and Monte Carlo.

Bethlehem, yes that is where I want to go gamble, spa, and relax. Will they be pumping in nice metallic content, Lehigh River water to relax in?

Now that it is a spa, I guess Sheldon Adelson is regretting that he didn't buy more Bethlehem Steel land to put in a Golf Course, maybe he can buy old Bethlehem Steel Club in Hellertown or even the struggling Bethlehem Municipal Club.

While I think it is great that some low end entertainment and service worker jobs will be created, in the big scheme of things, this does nothing to advance the Lehigh Valley and open's up a Pandora's Box of potential problems locally and destruction of lives for compulsive disorder oriented people.

The sheltered, pious Moravians are probably turning in their graves. From a town that and local culture based on an ethic of German, Austria, Hungary, Czech work ethic of the region where the Moravian's came from to a town looking for easy' money.

What has happened to the American value system, or at least the value system that once existed locally of pride in contribution to mankind?

Gambling is no contribution of anything.

How about Michele and the naked cowboy on the big screen in five points. Now that would be a draw.

<quoted text>Very Good idea Michele, as you enter the intersection, your attention is focused on the big "tron" and you don't notice the eyesores as much.
That could be a temporary diversion but I think the entire intersection should be revamped. The only problem I see with it is that Transmission repair place is there. It doesn't really fit into the whole "times square" look and feel but I would hate to suggest moving a viable business from its current location.

And whoever let that ugly non-descript apartment building complex be built there should be shot. I is so ugly in all its plainness.

On the plus side the McD's would fit perfectly into the plan.

I am if it makes the newspaper as a story that they are opening a new fast food chain in the area owned by the Burger King Corporation. And they will display a logo and show it in the paper, and guess what its the same one we all know and love. What is news about Sands Casino logo and name or Burger King logo and name. You actually make my point even clearer, though I doubt that was your point. Thank you.
I think what made the name news was the fact that "Bethlehem" was in the name. This is going to be printed on every annual report that goes to Sands investors around the world, not to mention brochures and everything else. I agree with JC it really brings Bethlehem front and center. They could have named it something that does not describe the location (think "Venetian"). Names like that work in places that are already a destination like Los Vegas. But in small cities like Bethlehem that is a huge deal.

It is clear that Bethlehem is becoming a positive brand in and of itself. Nobody outside the Valley rally knows what "Bethworks" is but they do know Bethlehem. This will help Musikfest,Celticfest, HBP and both of the downtowns. It is not the Sands Lehigh Valley , but BETHLEHEM! The Mayor is absolutely right and oh, yes, sexy! Bethlehem is truly unique and we shpuld appreciate all the wonderful things happening in the city right now.
I couldn't agree more (on ALL your points):)

dictator schweder and his puppet babbles belinski aren't up to the dark ages. they are still trying to walk. with all the positive events happening in bethlehem it's a wonder the citizens keep voting for these negative forces
