i went to oregon Trail with austin.
i called him pepsi twist with a lemon.
because he has a little bit of blonde in his hair, but the rest was dark.
when i first met him he was wearing a suit and so i started calling him suit boy. and eventually everyone called him that.
i will always remember him for he wild personality that could turn anyones day around.
his stories i will never forget.
he was one amazing kid and i will miss him

I am wondering if Austin or his family knew that the school district has buses that pick up students that attend the Magnet schools. Mine attended SST the other Magnet school and I know that hey offered transportation to us, and they would drop him off at his home school (which was Beaverton HS where he played football. I feel so bad for his family, and Austin kind of resembles my son. The day of the accident I called my sons cell which there was no answer, and then home to ease my worried mind; my son rides his bike around town, and I had this pit in my stomach on the way home from work, thinking it might have been him. I feel so bad for his family, all my love and prays are fro them (and that poor bus driver) to recover from this terrible tragedy. I think it would be nice to erect a white Bus bench in Austin's Honhor at the sight of the accident as a memorial to him.

I too when to Oregon Trail with Austin.
He was an great writer and a great friend, his stories and imagination would always surprise me and the class. I even still have one of his stories he wrote back in the 6th Grade, The Escape to Clatsop Falls. He is an amazing person and will be greatly missed.

I went to Concord elementary with Austin years back and he was a good friend, i always felt he was genuine. He moved and we went our own separate ways but i never forgot how special our friendship was.-Jesse
My heart goes out to the family. When ever I was around Stephanie and her family there was always a good feeling. Austin was special to my son Jesse back in grade school. Even though they went their own separate ways Jesse is still struggles with his loss. Our prayers go out to all the family, we pray for peace in their hearts to get them through this rough time. GIIC
Love to all the family, and God Bless

Austin and I were best friends. We were inseparable. I miss him so much, and I think about him every second of every day. I can't believe something like this would happen to him.. I am still reeling from the shock thirteen days later. Something needs to be done about the bike system in Portland, because it is not safe. The number of bicycle collisions in the past year is staggering. Austin's death has really hit close to home, and I have realized that in the aftermath of this awful tragedy, we need to make sure that this does not happen to anyone else.

Austin-- you are so loved by so many. It is amazing to see how many lives you affected. I hope that you are in a better place, now.. I still miss you and love you with all of my heart, but I'm sure that you are happier now than you were on earth.

I love him very, very much. He will be sorely missed.

Love from Austin's best friend, Emily.

P.S. Madeline-- Austin was involved with a play at ACMA, and he had to bike home from rehearsal, long after the busses had departed. Aside from that, he was aware of the bus system and simply preferred riding his bicycle to and from the school. He enjoyed cycling, and it gives me comfort to know that he died doing something he loved to do.

Austin was truly amazing. I was in his creative writing class and he was so smart. I'll never forget him. He made me laugh so many times. Whenever he smiled, I always had to return it. He was one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and I miss him so much.

Emily, Hang tuff , time does heal but it doesn't dim the memory. I was in HS and 16 year old when my best friend who also was my cousin was killed in a bike accident (he was hit by a truck during lunch time). I felt floor by the news and I still feel the pain every time I here of some one in that age group leaving this world in such a way. Yes , you will always think of him, yes the pain will be there , but it is our actions that help us heal, and so I feel that you have a fantastic idea that we do need to do something about the dangers on riding bikes, cycles in the are...It is going to get worse as people start to use them more for transportation. My Hubby was hit by a car while he was riding his Motorcycle, last April,he is lucky to be alive. So back to this, I propose that we have a fund raiser to raise money for a memorial bench or something in his honor. His school mates could take one of his stories and make a play out of it, charge a donation to see it and use the money to honor him. Our actions define us so lets go show our love for him and his family.

I was very shocked to hear about what happend to him. As soon as I heard the news, all I could do was think about what a GREAT person he was and how inspiring he was to the people around him. I met him in sixth grade. From day one, he impressed our class with his writing abilities. To be honest, I was sometimes jealous of his talent! He was THAT good!! I remember how he could brighten my day with his humor and his smile. He will be greatly missed and we will never forget him.

My son Johnny was best buds with Austin back in grade school at Concord Elementary. Austin was an amazing kid. I always wanted him around because he was so light hearted and creative, and he brought out my sons creativity. They wouldn't go shoot hoops together but instead draw a very detailed treasure map or talk about writing a story together. Austin was much like him mom in that he was a very giving person. Austin was an amazing writer, decorator (his room was always so tidy) and his mind was very creative. We will miss him.........God bless his family as they have to move on with their lives.

I can't say that I know Austin. I had never even seen him around school. But I think this kind of effected all of us, it made us all think and for a while things just weren't right. We're not over this but we got through it. And those who knew him will never forget him.
