They take the lottery money and give it to schools and it lets the state give them less so in effect it is a state tax.

Because when the state was trying to pass the lottery they claimed the money would go towards education, but in true political fashion they gave the schools lottery money and cut their finding by that amount. Aren't we the "lucky" ones?

Lucky dog! Good for him. The lottery gets away with murder with their prize amount claims though; the one with the 5 million prize for example; cash option is 3-something; taxes is about a third, you get 2m. How do they get away with calling 2m 5m???

"Sure, more people means more spending on health and welfare. The CBO found that over the next decade direct spending would increase by $262 billion if, among other measures, the Senate immigration bill is passed, opening a path to citizenship for many of the 11 million immigrants now in the United States illegally. But at the same time, the CBO calculated that with so many more people working, revenues would soar by $459 billion over the same decade; the federal deficit would go down by almost $200 billion. Likewise, the CBO found the legislation would boost the country’s overall economic output by 3.3 percent over the next decade, and by 5.4 percent over two decades, compared to what it would be without reform."

All he will do is send the Americans money back to Mexico!!!! He belongs back there where he came from. He probably don't even pay taxes. As long as they go back to their country 1 month out of the year they have to pay NOTHING here, but they are living here and using our roads that we have to pay all kind of taxes on. They get their vehicles registered in NC because they dont have to pay anything here for them.
he pays sales tax and his lotto purchases finance the public schools
gas tax, payroll tax (assuming he's workin' for a US citizen or company not breaking the law themselves), registration tax if he owns a car, and many more taxes in our land of the free

Leave the other family where they are!!!
I'm sorry. We're going to have to ask you to leave until you learn to write English.

We wouldn't be in so much debt if we weren't handing out to every illegal that comes here. They are all on MEDICAID, FOOD STAMP, HOUSING, and everything else you can think of. They eat better than I do drive a better car because we are paying for them to live like that. Make them get a job and stop having so many kids so they can get more money.
Send them back and our debt would be way down because we wouldn't be handed all the help and maybe just maybe our country could pay S)(*T off!!!
Wow. You just keep on digging.

Did it ever occur to you that if this man were illegal he probably wouldn't be so quick to get his name and face in the paper?

And don't blame 'them' for living better than you. Apparently,'they' started with better genetics.

You must like them being here. I bet if you go to Mexico you wouldn't get any help like they get here. You wouldn't get housing, food stamps, medicaid or nothing. We are in debt because we are giving all this help out because no one wants to work they want it handed to them on a silver platter. Read the article that E.W. Jackson wrote about the gov't handed out to everyone. He is right!

Why has everyone assumed he's not an American citizen?

And why is everyone so upset if he's not, and he won the lottery? Is there some kind of citizenship test when you buy one?

Do you ever think about what you write before you write it?

Hint: people come to this country to have a better life. They want to be rewarded for their efforts. They want to make money. In short, they come here _to work_.

Sheesh.

By the way, it's fascinating how a feel-good story about someone winning the lottery (regardless of what you think about the lottery) turns into a bunch of rants about immigration simply because the protagonist has a Latino name.

Is this place filled with winners, or what?
