Direct By is a scam. I went to the meeting yesterday and the whole experience felt like being in a cult. They take you into a showroom where you spend an hour there watching their crappy videos which try to drill in your head how good they are. The fee's are ridiculous 5k to be a member. And the fact that you can't go home to think about it is shady as well. I do not know about you guys, but if i am going to make a big investment, I wanna have 24hours to think about it. The salesman is pushy and rude and tries to tell you how you will be missing out on a deal. We had to make a decision then or walk away. Thankfully, i walked out with 5k in my pocket. Also, did you notice how they have you facing the away from the door so you do not see other "potential" victims leaving? I tried to sit facing the door, which is what i usually do, and the sales man would not allow it.

I Also fell for thier scam, "Buy Diect and no middle man". BS, they are the middle man.
They charge you for thier memberships fee around 5,000 and they still charge a handling fee and tax and 2 delivery charges.
Where are the saving that they were talking about?
Dam, I wish that there was something we could do about it but we sign a contract that states NO REFUNDS.

Direct Buy supports rabid right wing talk radio. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY. They advertise on the Mark Levin show, a non-stop hate fest. AVOID!!!!

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear the negative reports on Direct Buy. I've been a member since 1996. I can't remember the original name of the club but it had a name change to United Consumers Club and now has morphed into Direct Buy (DB). When I joined, the initial membership fee was just shy of $1,000 - which seemed like a fortune. I did not know it had become so expensive. I've nothing but good experiences with Direct Buy over the years and I've saved thousands of dollars. Even though there is a shipping fee, plus tax, you can't help but save money. I'm not aware of 2 delivery charges, maybe it varies from state to state. To Sam in Brooklyn, don't despair, if you actually utilize DB you'll get your money's worth.

My wife and I joined Direct Buy ... then 2 weeks later I lost my job and requested a refund on my membership. I have to say they were very understading and immediately credited my credit card.
So if you feel you deserve a refund, just ask them. You have nothing to lose.

I am in the same boat. I joined 3 months ago, an dleft them numerous messages, and finally complained to someone who answered that I will come over there if I need to request a refund, then she went all crazy, and said that they would have me arrested if I did that! Please let me know how your case goes.

I worked on the Direct Buy account for a furniture company that sold to Direct Buy, so this info is from the 'inside' per se.
The prices they sell to the member are nearly those that Direct Buy pays to the manufacturer; there is a slight markup to cover costs but it is significantly lower than you would ever pay at retail, even with the taxes (which you would pay at retail anyway) and the delivery charges (which you would also most likely pay at retail as well).

Yes the member fee is high, but if you are going to buy a lot of merchandise you 'get it back'(think of it, a well made full bedroom set could easily cost you 3-4 thousand at retail). As for their tactics to join...yeah, sleezy. But their prices are good~!

I couldn't agree more. I was about to buy some appliances retail when I joined. I saved about 2K with their prices. The sales pitch is shaddy and the wait times are long but the prices are better.

I WENT TO A DIRECT BUY OPEN HOUSE IN CORONA, CALIFORNIA. THEIR MEMBERSHIP FEE WAS 5995. SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS IS A LOT OF MONEY TO GET SAVINGS ON PURCHASES IN THE FUTURE. AT THAT RATE, IT WOULD BE VERY HARD TO MAKE ANY PURCHASES AFTER PAYING THEIR INITIAL FEE. IF THE OFFER IS LEGITIMATE, WHY CAN'T THEY GIVE YOU SOME TIME TO THINK ABOUT THE INVESTMENT? WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE, MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED AGAINST PURCHASING A DIRECT BUY MEMBERSHIP AND THE SALESPERSON SEEMED TO BE A LITTLE ANGRY. IT JUST SEEMED TO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

I just joined Directbuy this year. This membership is for select individuals only. JOIN ONLY IF you are planning on buying A LOT of stuff (new home) and you don't like shopping around. Otherwise, the membership fee is too high, the wait for product too long, the shipping charges can make up 30% of the total cost (which they don't reveal), and the sales pitch is a total scam.

If you are planning on furnishing a whole house with quality stuff, hate shopping a dozen stores, and looking for discount flyers, you won't be wronged. But otherwise, Don't buy this. If it wasn't for my new home purchase this year, I would not have joined them.

Direct Buy is a scam. We have sent and E-Mail and are waiting for a reply to see if we can get our money back. The presentation says how easy it is to order and it has been nothing but a nightmare. The savings are not there for us unless you are already looking for high quality merchandise which we cannot afford. They have repeatly changed prices on us and think they are doing bait and switch on memebers
