A company that once had a good reputation for Fine Quality Furniture but under the Direction of Hugh Plunkett the company is now going out of Business and is on credit backhold with all of its clients. As an Employee of the company im glad its almost over, I welcome unemployment with open arms. Hugh Plunkett is a mean old man that gets off on degradeing and making his employees feel like their the filth of the world! Plunketts last day of operation is August 10, 2009.

You couldn't be more right on. Hugh Plunkett is a wack job.He should have been sued many times after what he has said to female employees. His nephew and niece who also run the company are the biggest waste of lifes you could ever meet.Good riddance to the biggest jerks ever.

Plunkett going out of business after 78 years is very sad only because there were so many caring employees who wanted only the best for the customer. But when you are degraded and given absolutely no encouragement from the owner (Hugh Plunkett) it is hard to want to serve customers with dignity and respect.

......Stop the bleeding...this company was surely on life support for 2-3 years. Under the direction of John Plunkett the company flourished but once the Nut job "MR Hugh" was placed at the helm it was like an airline headed for a crash landing.
His obnoxious demoralizing attitude towards his staff as well as his lack of regard for his customers and vendors tarnished his reputation.
Im fortunate to have gotten out before my name became associated with MULCH along with his!

Another mistake they made was when they first moved to distribution center in Addison and they let Mark Plunkett have an open wallet to buy anything, thinking buying in bulk would propel them to the top. He screwed up and then left the company in ruins.A real moron he was.

As a former employee who dutifully worked for John Sr., this is somewhat a said day.
However his brother, probably an abortion that lived was the true definition of a monster. For all the former co-workers he verbally abused and the countless lives this animal ruined I stand up and cheer that this day has finally come. Hopefully we may find this freak on a street corner one day panhandling, rotting away to nothing.

I was the constant focus of Hugh Plunkett's degrading and humiliating treatment for over a year. At Last, VINDICATION!
All I wanted was a job in which to get some experience in my chosen field of interior design. What I got was a nightmare of being insulted on a daily basis, followed around, he was even going to follow me into the Ladies room at one point. I finally had enough one day listening to his hysterical ranting on the phone, and I hung up on him. That was all it took to be fired. Thank God.

Hugh Plunkett definitely got what he deserved. I feel sorry though for all those people that are making their earnings from this company. He doesn't care for them at all from what I've been reading here.

I'm right there with the rest of you. Hugh Plunkett is an absolutely crazy, mean spirited SOB who got what he deserved. I reported directly to this whacko for 6 months (only because it was tough finding another job sooner) and he made daily life a living hell. He was degrading and made the job impossible with his incoherent rantings and ravings. What a lunatic. He also followed me into the ladies room to nag me for something as mentioned by another writer.....good riddance to bad rubbish.

Having seen first hand the monster and poor excuse for a human being, Hugh Plunkett's treated his employees and customers I can't say I'm sad to hear of this companies demise.I actually saw him throw a customer out of the store because she had a complaint.Every single employee under me dreaded his presence in the store.I witnessed more than one employee quitting because of his antics. His reputation was one of a tyrant, raving mad man and a lunatic. He was the absolutely the worst person that I have ever worked for.My time there was a living nightmare the worst experience of my life. When I resigned it was a world of pain off my shoulders. When I saw the posts it brought back memories of life in hell.

Wow, it's nice to know I wasn't just magnifying the horror in my memory. I worked at the River Forest store for about a year and a half. I was lucky not to be in Hugh's home store, but he visited a lot. It was funny-- any time he left one store, the office staff would call all the other stores and say "He's on the move!" to warn everyone he might make an appearance.

I tried really hard to make Hugh like me, and having a positive attitude and being a "yes-man" usually worked, but his irrational thinking and behavior made him unpredictable. One minute he would be rubbing my elbow in a creepy way, the next he would be dancing around and getting in my face, taunting me about something. It was very stressful, to say the least.

These comments are dead on!!! That crazy old man was that - crazy!!! I once saw him throw himself on the floor and kick and scream like a little baby. And his wife was no better. She was just as mean spirited!!

Their son, Dan Plunkett ran the Hoffman Estates store into the ground. John Plunkett, Jamie Plunkett... they are all mean, crazy money hungry people looking out only for themselves. They price gouge their customers.

Beware... John Plunkett has a new business:
John Plunkett Design Plaza del Lago opening in Wilmette. I'm telling you.... he is no better than his crazy, bastard of an uncle!!! I dealt with them all.

You'll find a range of recent set sofas and armchairs. Looking for a new bedroom set? The four-poster mattresses are an innovative choice. Furniture items are generally large and completed in intricate materials. However, there is also a huge fabric-choosing area, so if you're not into that animal-print loveseat, you can choose a more simple design to match your flavour. Lovely kids' furniture is a stand apart.

I grew up a few homes down from Hugh And I am here to tell you he was mentally ill. He was once running all over the neighborhood in his pajamas and robe. I think he was committed at one point. Growing up in the neighborhood with him I am here to tell you I would rather have no furniture than buy from this crazy piece of shit. Couldn't stand anyone in that family. Hitler youth
