Ok, so why didn't Zell pursue the private offer to begin with?

Politicos had better keep their hands off this "deal". Last thing we need is our tax money buying a sports stadium (without voter approval, mind you!) and the fat cats getting their own sky boxes.....

According to Zell , Big Jim's secret plan , breaks the rules of MLB and would also hurt the future owner of the team in collecting revenue from the so called seat license plan Big Jim was trying to use for the renovation funding. Can't believe a former Illinois Gov. would be breaking the rules !(LOL) The state does not need this, can't afford it , and should not pursue it any further.

Listen you greedy no good scum bags, sell the team to a owner...not another group of investors, but a owner. Someone like Mark Cuban.
Bud Selig is a scum bag, and if his cronies get the club, then we are all in trouble as Cubs fans.

wrigley is fun

Private enterprise should manage and buy the stadiums. Government should have nothing to do with the baseball park. Major league basball owners have experience in managing parks.
Illinois is too corrupt and stupid to get a good deal!
Thompson find another hobby!

The state of Illinois has more important matters facing their economic future than purchasing Wrigley Field. I am a down stater and I enjoy visiting Chicago but that does not temper my resentment in having local projects go unfunded so that the windy city can have everything desired.

Go Cubs
|
HOLD OUT FOR MORE, TRIBUNE! The state of Illinois deserves socialistic baseball. The people of Illinois are so stupid they would probably pay more taxes to own Wrigley field. Stick it to them idiots.

Jim Thompson, you've been given your answer. Try some other scheme to fleece the taxpayers of Illinois. One day you may learn that the resources you want to spend so freely are actually the dollars earned by the hard work of the txpayers. Spend our money wisely, not on tributes to yourself.

Can someone please explain why our state government has a "Sports Facilities Authority" in the first place? I didn't know the state was also in the entertaintment business.
I guess it's just another way to get their hands on our money and misappropriate it.

Just wondering, but it appears everyone who has responded to this article is agaisnt the State of Illinois being involved in the ownership of Wrigley Field. Why dont the great citizens of Illinois get on the phone, emails etc to their elected officials and declare if this happens you will not be reelected to serve. Kinda like when I read that some of the legislators declared they deserved raises or no one in their districts object to more money. People put pressure on these people who believe you will go along with anything because well they believe you are all sheep.

hope Cuban buys it

the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority already owns The Cell. And you can see what they did to that.....

Zell should quit fooling around. He needs to sell the team along with the stadium. Whoever buys the Cubs can work out the new arrangement, if any, with the Illinois Sports Facility Authority.

This entire concept should be deep sixed completely and forever. Why would the state want to do this? Why would Jim Thompson want to? Could it be that there would be million dollar-plus non-bid contracts for clout-heavy friends for insurance, bonds, attorney fees, architectural fees and engineering fees along with the usual Chicago sweetheart deals for construction, concrete, asphalt and equipment? Nah, not in Chicago!!!! By the way, under the Thompson plan, while there might not be state tax money involved, the bond holders would demand that the state guarantee the construction bonds. And on top of all that, the taxpayer would get hit again because Wrigley Field would be taken off the property tax rolls. Neat, huh?

Your Chubs as I recall got swept in the Playoffs last year so this past weekend is pretty meaningless. By the way, Wrigley is still a "Urinal".
