Dr Messenger is a highly educated, kind, caring individual who works very hard. He has state of the art equipment, no one in Western Ma has, therefore he cares about his patients and not his pockets. He totally puts 100% back into his office. However, only educated patients can appreciate his services.***Note VOTED 2010 BEST OF BERKSHIRES DENTIST...hmm thank goodness he has more educated than ignorant patients.
Sorry, Sally, yes he is a kind person, but he DOES give the runaround. I'm currently in the process of having much of his previous work corrected, and both good-reputation dentists and specialists have questioned the quality of the work as they examine, and correct, my teeth. And the corrections are not the runaround; they've been proven as necessary (both by problems I've run into outside of a dentist's chair and specialists' tests.) And interestingly enough, the corrected work by others never needs correction. And all this INCLUDES (but is not limited to) phantom cavities he insists to find, that after close examination by advanced x-ray technology and early cavity detection equipment in both a specialist's and other dentist's office are NOT THERE (not to mention several years since they supposedly appeared, and have apparently not grown in the least into a problem.) He's cheery and friendly and maybe he really does believe he's doing his best, but be very careful about what he claims you need and if you do allow him to go ahead with work, be very watchful of the quality and get second opinions if something just does not feel right. It is YOUR right.

Sorry, I never heard the "famous" pulp test before, and I've been a patient of Gene's since he started.
A pulp test is to test the quality of the inner tissues of a tooth, and to determine the need for a root canal. General dentists can do them, but sometimes they refer the patient to a specialist (an endodontist) if the tooth has a more extensive anatomy (a molar, for instance, instead of a front tooth.)

I liked Dr Messanger very much. Once our dental insurance changed we could no longer afford him. Just cleanings would have cost us $600 more last year which are now covered completely by our new dentist. If your insurance covers it or money isn't an issue, Dr Messenger is a great guy.

LOL and Sorry but are right, so sorry, Sally. I was a patient of Dr. Messenger for six months, and I had to leave. He pointed out a "crack" in one tooth and two "cavities" in others, and ordered the famous pulp test for another tooth - at a specialist in Pittsfield who refused to accept my insurance and demanded cash up front before he'd even let me in the exam room. I left his office without doing the test, went to a dentist in Pittsfield, and was told NONE of what Messenger told me was true. That was four years ago, and I've had no issues with any of those so-called bad teeth.

Not what I meant, I've heard of the test, but I never had him ask me to get one.
And I've been a patient in that office since before he even started.

Hello.
I was a patient of Gene's for a few years_ around 2003-2006. He took out my top teeth for a denture. I was not feeling good about how the 'permanent', or final plate was feeling at first. He told me to give it a while and that my gums would 'fit' to the thing in time, but if after a while I was really not HAPPY with the denture, he would make me a second FREE OF CHARGE. Well, time went by, he did some bridgework on my bottom teeth, left and right, which is STILL going good for me, plus we did a 'stem & crown' which fell out before six months... TWICE. The bridge work took a few months or more to 'settle' in, including the darn FOUR root canals his buddy in Pittsfield did prior to the bridges. It was a few months later the first 'stem & crown' procedure, then about six-eight months later it had to be repeated. About this time, I decided to take Gene up on his 'promise' regarding the denture I STILL did not like. Well, he went out of his way, though in his NICE manner, to try and make me realize how WRONG I was to expect him to provide another denture FREE_ sigh! I ended-up paying HALF...$500.
I can not think of ANY nicer dentist, regarding personality. But I doubt I will ever have him as my dentist again. So now, I will need to find another dentist. Does any one know a dentist that take the 'CareMed' credit card? I want to get mini implants for some bottom teeth.
I REALLY liked going to Gene, and he has that GREAT way with his patients. But...

I'm surprise he gives out discounts for people that have no insurance. Why can't he just offer lower rates for everyone instead of ripping off the insurance companies. I asked a dentist once to lower his rate so I could afford the dental work he told he could not because the insurance audit his paper work and if he can give others a discount he can give the discount out to those that have insurance also just because you have dental insurance doesn't mean it pays for everything either and lot of expensive does have to come out of ones pocket. I also think Bush is the worst dentist around he has as much personality as a skunk!

We left Messenger a two years ago after we compared rates. To this day our new dentist has not said anything about the cavities Messenger said I had than. Do cavities disappear? Our new dentist doesn't have the newest high tech equipment, plentiful good looking staff, or luxury sports cars. I'm ok he has it, but I don't want to pay extra for it. As with any doctor or dentist, it's worth getting a second opinion. Don't tell the second one you were already checked or what you know. It will scare you to see how different each evaluation comes out. Who is right?
