I was there many, many years ago. Grandparents lived there, he used to own an advertising agency in Chicago. He'd take a train there , every day. Wheaton used to be a nice place, but now I'm sure its ghetto.

Here's another reason why Detroit failed: My girlfreind and I were Physicians in Residency/training in the 80's in Detroit and we loved to go to Greek Town and the RenCen after dinner. We stopped going afte 6-7 black thugs(yup looked like Trayvon in spades and as Obama's mythical sons would) physically assaulted me and sexually battered my Physician girlfriend as we walked the bricks. I bought a gun that week and still carry-for the grace of GOD I have not had to use it as Zimm felt he had to...

That all fine and dandy, but but it seem the vast majority of those people posting here do not have a clue what is going on with Detroit's finances and only want to do the childish attacks on either the dems or blacks.
In reality, half their "jokes" dont make any sense since the people of Detroit are no longer running their own finances.
Of course they are no longer running their finances. They proved they couldn't and the corruption ran rampant.

Ok, so when the repubs at the state level fail to do the same, whom are you going to blaim then? The dems some more? Lets remember that the same state leadership has tried this emergency financial manager in mulitple cities already and have had next to no success.

Im not saying they cant fix detroit, but things are not looking good for them; so fly or fall, the ball is now in the state repubs court.

If they have trouble during a bad economy or inherited a mess that is one thing. But if they have trouble year after year, in good times and bad, like Detroit, that is something different.

Its time for the tough love. If our government can screw over people who paid their debts down and get no interest in any saving and have lost a good part of their meager retirement wealth, then they can stop this crap with the parasites who have done not much of anything in their existence.

This is what will eventually happen to all cities. Their fiscally irresponsible generosity will end up bankrupting them. This might be a good time to take a realistic look at overcompensated public unions all across this country.
