A wise man indeed!

I'm sure he rode a Harley...

Fred,

I live in area as well. Motorcycles have become a plague because, as noted above, they almost all use illegal mufflers now. The laws governing the use of illegal exhaust systems are simply not enforced.

Refer to Fairfax County Municipal Code 82-6-26 and 82-6-27, and the EPA Label Match up program. Groups like Noise Off have extensive information.

We need to work with local police, politicians, neighborhood associations, etc... to get them to crack down on this harmful illegal activity.

Fred,
I've been riding for over 25 years and have ridden and owned Japanese, American and European makes. That being said, my current commuter is an '04 Road King. It is louder than stock but not louder than about 100db, and only get's that loud if I have to get on it, passing hard, accident avoidance, etc. And, BTW, I do where Olympia reflective/protective gear and a full-faced lid....
The point is that the minor mods to intake and exhaust netted me 10-12 horses plus torque. Which I find helpful during a 60 mile each way commute.

Most performance pipes are loud. My Ultra Classic has performance mufflers but not straight pipes. IMO, There is a time and place for noise. In and around town I just putt around and keep noise level to a minimum. Out on the open highway, I open it up. I really hate the bikers that have that broken wrist syndrome and have to rev the bike up every few seconds. Maybe its because it can't run on its own cause its a POS, who knows. But the look at me and my loud exhaust attitude is definately gonna cause us bikers to have to deal with a lot of ordinances that we don't need and these could be eiminated if we all just use some common sense. My $.02 worth and I don't give a fuck what you think.

Damn, starting out like that, I have to wonder if you have an agenda. Pretty sure you do.
