<quoted text>Wow, the 400 pound cheerleader hater has spoken. Well, she was helping the boys in school learn to READ! Each day, she would have a word printed on her rump and by the end of the year she would have them reading more and more! In history class, she could wear the Constitution in fine print, so everyone can look UP CLOSE and get a FIRM education. It is a WORD, just like OUI is a word. Your interpretation of it is where it gets dirty. After all, sweatpants are not sexy, what is in them is what makes them sexy.
400 pound cheerleader hater? I probably am about the same size as this girl, and when in high school was a cheerleader myself. That doesn't matter. There is a time and a place for everything. And advertisement of PLAYBOY in school is not appropriate. Out of respect for others and most of all for yourself- you should dress appropraitly in school.
Evidently you haven't seen how young girls are wearing sweat pants lately- with their thongs rising up the back of them and low lieing on the hips- I'm not saying in a different setting that even that would be wrong but not in school. That (to me) defies respect. That is one of the problems with our younger generation today- lack of respect. You say it's only a word but PLAYBOY like HUSTLER signifies a men's entertainment magazine, and I stand on my opinion that in a school setting that is inappropraite.

Okay, let's assume it's not appropriate (and let's face it, when you're a student in school property your first amendment rights go out the window)... do you think two days detention was the right punishment? Wouldn't it make more sense to ask her to wear another pair of sweat pants? That's what happened in my high school when anybody wore something that the school deemed inappropriate.
While we're on the subject, what if it was a guy wearing a shirt with the Playboy logo or Penthouse key written on his chest? Should he get punished also?

Sure, she should have been sent home to change her inappropraite clothing. That's how it is done in So. FL or- they make you wear your clothing inside out.
AS far as a young man wearing a t-shirt suggesting playboy or hustler etc- yes, he should be asked to change his clothing or turn it inside out. First offense should be just that- second- go home for the remainder of the day- third-suspension from school grounds.

when were you in school? ever? detention is not the same as suspension. no college will ever see that. i personally don't think she should be allowed to wear that, but think the punishment was overboard. that said, the article didn't provide any history. maybe that has been an ongoing problem, maybe she cussed out the principal when he said something, we just don't know.
these types of rules didn't have to be enforced generations ago as parents kept the kids in line. there is no respect or notion of what's appropriate now. kids in decades passed weren't taking drugs like they are now, so they didn't have to become hawks on "midol". obnoxious kids with no good parental guidance ruined it for everyone.
free speech is alive and well. that doesn't mean it's ok to express yourself as you see fit on school grounds and cause a disruption. it's just not reasonable to allow any behavior and still be able to teach. they are pretty much only babysitting now anyway b/c of all the disruptive kids and no ability to enforce control. did they say she couldn't own the clothes? nope. she just needs to wear them on her own time. bet she can't wear them to any decent job either.
when you have columbine and similar things happening, how can you talk about bringing knives to school being no big deal? if events like that never occured then it wouldn't be. bad and disruptive behavior will lead to stricter rules.
and you are trying to make this a sexism thing? are you Gloria Steinem (sp)? where's Rev. Sharpton....oh, that's right, we don't know if the girl is black.
Actually, she is black and an honor student.

The logo and brand aren't offensive. One my consider it suggestive, but I think the kid should have been asked not to wear the pants again and told to have someone bring her something else to wear for the rest of the day. I think kids should be given a warning first. Especially if the rules are "fuzzy". If the administration jumps to punishment prior to a warning, it is no wonder the youth of today do not respect authority.
I completely agree....You have summed it up perfectly, and I couldn't have said it better myself

That's a messed up thing to say. Just because she wore Playboy sweats doesn't give you the right to judge her. I own a couple Playboy things myself but I don't wanna be in a strip club as a career. I just have nothing against porn. The human body is art and I've viewed Playboy magazine before. It's way more better than Hustler and Penthouse

It really has to do with RESPECT. I'm so tired of all of these people acting ignorant. It really doesn't matter what an adult chooses to wear to the mall- dinner- public. But a kid in high school- yes. It matters. Be respectable- be kind-be polite and dress accordingly. Please. these kids are not ignorant they know what is permitted. If my daughter even thought to wear something to school that could even be mistakenly suggestive- she would have consequences with me.

Okay I must admit that maybe it wouldn't have been appropriate for school. I find nothing wrong with a high school girl wearing Playboy sweats if it's with her friends or at the mall or whatever but in high school, it can be too much IF it's against the dress code. But then again I'm 16 and I LOVE the Playboy lifestyle. I love naked women. They are hot and love girls in general. I have worn Playboy to school but then again I go to an alternative high school and we don't have a dress code. Plus I teacher has never approached me or told me to put my Playboy things away. I never even get dirty looks from adults. I had one teacher compliment my Playboy earrings but my school is filled with open-minded teachers and students so hey, maybe all teens should go to my school is they're against a dress code.

First of all- Maybe your school is in need of a new English teacher. Your grammer is terrible. Secondly,as I said it is about respect. You're a young high school girl and you should be taught to respect your body as other will not if you do not. I have teens and younger children as well. My kids are not allowed to wear certain things to school-out to family dinner etc but they are allowed to wear certain things hanging out with their friends at the mall-concerts etc. It just teaches them and instills in them that different occasions require different attire. We (soceity) are allowing our children a loss of respect in this world for themselves and others and thats where ALL of the problems start.

Okay my grammer is actually pretty good but I typed that like 5 minutes before I had to go somewhere so I don't think you should judge me on that. And I do respect my body but I have thought about posing nude when I'm older because I find the human body art. I think society has taught us to believe that our bodies should be hidden and that it's immoral for our bodies to be seen. I don't know why society makes us ashamed of ourselves but it does. I love it when I see a woman's body personally. I think a person's body is the most beautiful thing ever. Now I must admit that magazines like Hustler and Penthouse (which I would never wear their merchandise) shows too much like girl's fingering theirselves and giving head. I think they should be in a porn video or just be in the privacy of your bedroom. And I don't see why Playboy magazine is so bad. It's naked women just lying around. And as a bisexual, I don't mind seeing that. I feel like most people are against playboy and nudity out of their own insecurities.

Istand firm in my beliefs as I have stated above. It has nothing to do with art, sexual preference etc. It has everything to do with self respect and how you care or do not care how others perceive you. If you do care you do things to preserve your reputation as a moral and respectful person-if you don't care you live carelessly and loose respect in certain groups and overall the general public. I too, think the body is beautiful although I am a heterosexual. But I do not desire to be out to dinner with my family and see some teenage girls boobs laying on the table in front of her her nipples barely covered or her thongs hanging out of her pants wrapped around her A**hole. That to me is not beautiful it's quite slutty and I do not desire to see it.

I do agree with your statement and I don't wear shirts that low. I must admit that some of my shirts are a bit lowcut but they weren't meant that way. The problem is that I have a very small waist for my chest size and I'm really a small in shirts. Problem is that most of my tops don't fit my top half properly so they do show a bit chest but not too much. And as for jeans around your asshole, I do have low riders but since my ass is really big I don't wanna wear jeans as low. What I mean about the human body and Playboy is that they're two different types of things. A girl wearing a mini skirt with a thong rising up and a super low cut top is quite skankish (even though I don't mind personally. I like to look and I don't like to judge others at that) but in Playboy the women are fully naked and they are not in sexual positions. They're posing like a model would pose. I don't see what's wrong with it. If you look in a Hustler, it makes Playboy look innocent.
And as far as caring how others look at you, I no longer care. And I don't mean I go around being loose and just being a slut to show I don't care, I just truly don't. I respect myself to the point where I dress a way I can let you know I like the way I am, I think I'm one of the finest females on this planet, and if you have something to say, kiss my ass. So my normal outfit is basically attention grabbing earrings (now and then I do wear my Playboy earrings that say Miss January on them with my matching Playboy hobo but that just shows that bunny logo which is my trademark because most of my boyfriends have called me bunny even my current one does then my friends started calling me bunny. Then after I started getting Playboy gifts from my friends, people just made it one of my official nicknames so I just am whatever on it). And from my experiences, women call you a slut no matter what.
Just a while ago on Spring Break I was with my boyfriend and all I did was wear a striped sweater, a black Enyce bomber coat, some light wash skinny jeans, and some 1 inch Lugz boots that went almost to my knee and a number of girls called me a slut (but none said it to my face) which I didn't think I looked anyway slutty at all (considering that everything was covered up).
So as far as I am about worring what others think I just stopped caring. In my eyes self respect is doing and wearing whatever the hell you want and not letting people affect and run your life because I used to be like that and almost ended up losing my mind caring and satisfying people. It doesn't make any sense to me. Most people that point the slut finger to me are just catty bitches that don't have a life.

Juicy makes an expensive set of sweats.

The most obscene thing I've seen was a very obese woman wearing a set of these sweats with JUICY stretched tight across her fat jiggly butt

Although I believe in the right of anyone to wear a pair of pants with ANYTHING written on them, I think all public schools in America should have uniforms as required clothing for all students. Uniforms would render this a non-issue.

Eww I hate uniforms. I wore uniforms in elementary and middle school and you feel like nothing but a robot put into the school system machine. Everyone looks like everyone, no one shows any real personality, and it makes you wanna blow your brains out (but that's just me because I'm crazy about fashion and originality and when everyone looks the same, it's just irritating and creepy). So yeah I also go to an alternative school so that wouldn't really fly with the students OR the teachers.
