I'm no fan of Bush but can we work together to preserve instead of rescue with fear from a non-existent crisis?
Global warming will be to liberals what WMD's were to conservatives.
History will laugh at the very thought of anyone suggesting that humans can dictate the temperature of planets.
Oil is bad for peace but let's face the future and progress together.

Trickle down gouging. Made possible by Republican corruption and emphasis on making oil companies rich at the expense of the consumer.
.
Capitalism is fine, but it must be regulated against abuse and greed by those few who buy enough access into the government (via Republican Party).
.
Vote for you own economic interests in November. Vote Blue. Vote for Obama and all Democrats on the ticket. Stop the thieves.

OK, let's get one thing straight. Even though Dyer is on the board of OUC, City of Orlando employees are NOT OUC employees and vice versa. Two different entities and two completely different salary and benefit structures. OUC is where City employees want to go work when they grow up.
I agree that any OUC salaries over 100000 bucks a year should be scrutinized carefully.
Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps you mght also be able to confirm the truth of another comment posted here: Do OUC employees really get "free" electricity?

Nuclear power is not inexpensive. There is no place to safely store the spent rods which remain radioactive for hundreds of years.

Well said!
If you look thought the world. In third world countries, the best and the brightest migrate towards Government jobs because they pay the best. This is eventually the downfall of the entire nation.
Free societies NEED to have more emphasis on private sector jobs being more desirable than government ones.
This is clearly not the case in America anymore. Who wouldn't want to work for the government with all their great perks and job security?
Why do we keep blaming government employees and picking on them? I've worked both private and government. I work as hard at my government job and I make less money than private sector jobs. This is true even when you consider the pension. Please keep in mind that government employess don't get 401K matching. I only stay since I like a 40 hour work week so I can have a nice work-life balance.

Also I don't even think Orlando is part of the Florida Retirement System.

Stop blaming everyone but yourself. What have you done to reduce your use of electricity?

So if we use less power in our homes and conserve, that gives OUC the right to double our rates? So if we do less work at our jobs we can get double pay.

Why should I reduce my electricity use?

That is the problem with you libs, you think it is a zero sum game!

Aim lower!

Conserve!

I have news for you, less energy usage equals no economic growth.

I am not going to change my lifestyle as long as I can afford to just so you can feel better about lowering your lifestyle.

Drive your little deathtrap, keep the AC at 80'

My electric bill went down since I installed a Solar Attic Ventilator. The A/C runs 30% less.

It is true that OUC commissioners used to receive free electricity for life as a 'thank you' for serving on the commission. I believe they also got free healthcare. Those days, however, are past.

President Bush and the oil companies do not control the price of oil. The devalued US Dollar is contributing heavily to our recession. Until the Dollar recovers, oil and other imports will continue to climb. You can also thank the oil commodity speculators who continue to bid up the price on oil futures. They have more control of the oil prices than the President. The answer is not taxes on excess profits because they will be passe on to consumers by the oil companies. Drilling will help 8-10 years from now. If Bush wanted to drive prices down immediately, he could put Federal emplotees on a four day work week (ten hours per day) and strongly encourage major employers to follow suit. Gasoline comsumption would decrease immediately by up to 20% and the price of oil and gas would fall significantly overnight. Republican politicans avoid this solution because big business opposes it, and the Democrats would be pressed by greedy unions to make employers pay overtime rates for hours in excess of 8 hours per day. The solution would work and it would help immediately.

It all depends on it they're a Democrat or Republican and how long they've been in office. The longer the tenure, the more the manure, which does burn....if you get the drift.

Is it time to amend the building code for new homes in Central Florida to include more energy & power conservation materials?

For example, what about insisting that new homes of a certain size have at least one or two shade trees on the south and west walls to reduce the sun's excessive heat build-up inside the house in the summer?

Or, what about exterior solar shades on all east, south and west facing windows for the same effect? We tried them for the first time this year and wish we had installed them years ago.
