The article reads ...the main risk is that natural gas prices will go down. Because PG&E gets more of its electricity from burning natural gas than the authority expects to, if natural gas prices go down, the authority will find it difficult to offer prices that are competitive with PG&E's

This entire venture is questionable...all this money and MEA rates could actually be HIGHER than PG&E. What are the Supervisors thinking???

Under what authority does the county have to make these loans? The supe's slush funds should should be abolished before they decide that these loans may beome their pet projects.

I want to know who to call to opt myself out of the rediculas money sucking plan to purchase energy for Marin County! I want my Supervisor Hal Brown to know that I do not approve of him voting to spend my tax dollars on something that we did not even have the opportunity to vote on. Who I get my energy from is my business not yours!

We will never see any of this money if this boondoggle fails
They are creating something with its own life that will be continued regardless of cost or success
Thats the way government works
Once created the bueracracy never goes away
Do you really think Marin County government is competant to do this?
And now according to the SF Chron today there is talk of joing up with SF to create a larger entity
Do you want the SF BOS (Daly,Campos and Avalos et al)involved in your future energy supply?

A better way to say this would have been that the 'loan' was not from the County, but rather, more picking of the county taxpayer's pocket for another dim-witted scheme to justify their unnecessary existence. Fire them and dump the incumbants who perpetuate such garbage.

No mention of the Supe behind the Shell deal, Ole Charly the weasel McGlashan?
(sounds like an ole associate of corrupt Boston's Honey Fitz don't he?)

Looks like yet another money pit to throw precious county money down, along with the train that will never get off the tracks..... The county could do better with "our" money, like look into setting up a County Bank of Marin that save bundles by making loans to county projects without the burdens of having to pay interest to greedy bankers or further burden the taxpayers with an avalanche of bonds.

Did you know that only ONE incumbent supervisor (Bob Romiguiere, 1992) has lost in Marin in the last 35 years??

That's why they do what they damn please!

Where is this money coming from????

How much more money are they needing to "borrow"---and how/when will it be paid back.

This is out of control and the arrogance of whoever is authorizing it is astonishing. Which taxpayers are going to pay for it---or what really useful county needs are not going to be met because money is going to these folks?

BTW---where is the money going?? Lawyers/consultants/supes' friends???

I am going to puke.

Hmm, a loan? Who is paying back, when, for what? Can the journalist do some more investigation here and write more about it? Who is authorizing these loans? Where does the money go to? Not to energy consultants from Marin (Oakland company). I also noticed that the companies selected to provide renewable energy are NOT from, Marin, NOT from the Bay, NOT even from California. Shouldn't the money stay local? That is part of sustainability too. It is called financial sustainability...especially during these harsh budget deficit times. We have plenty of energy competencies right here in our own backyard. This whole thing is mind boggling...

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Cancer

Hold it! You need to approach things in a calm, controlled manner today otherwise you're likely to get yourself into a state in no time at all. That's especially likely if you're trying to meet a deadline because you'll start to panic and then become all fingers and thumbs. You might also get extremely ratty with anyone who gets in your way or asks stupid questions. Come on, is that fair?
