My iguana was fascinating. She was four feet long and would whip the heck out of anyone she didn't like. But she liked me...sometimes I'd dress her up in a sombrero and poncho or tiny biker jacket and shades. Unfortunately, she ran away from her habitat and returned one month later--starving and half-frozen--not too bright but knew how to hide and that caused her demise. I do not suggest buying them as pets.

If you were found to have injured or attempted to injure an iguana you could be prosecuted for a felony (animal cruelty). The fact that is an invasive species and a pest is no defense. A young man was recently arrested for shooting with a pellet gun a muscovy duck (also invasive, also a pest). The local idiot politicians make these stupid laws and no one complains. It takes idiot voters to elect idiot politicians.

Not that I believe one is going to start hunting humans, though in that cold snap, they were falling outta my mango tree and could have clocked me. I saw a small car run over one once and the driver had a hard time keeping control of the car as t thunked over the damn thing.

I had a medium sized one run across the road in front of me in Tavernier , unfortunately I ran it over and it was mortally wounded , thankfully the dumptruck behind me finished it off . I work on boats and constantly find iguanas on them . Sometimes they are pretty damn big . One time , I was walking to a boat behind a house off of Las Olas along a ficus hedge.. there was a hibiscus tree kind of poking out near the end of the hedge close to the dock . It was around 8 am and I wasn't quite expecting the hedge and hibiscus to erupt in violent shaking , with a 4+ foot iguana flying out of it , hitting the dock with a thud , and then launching into the canal. Nearly scared the used nutrients out of me . |
