First of all,

WGES is not out to scam you guys. It's all about the Energy Choice. Meaning that you have the choice of who supplies your electricity. The Utility companies such as BGE, Pepco, and Washington Gas are regulated by the Public Service Commission, meaning that they have to pay state regulated electric and gas prices. By law the utility companies are not allowed to profit off of the supply, or else they would have a monopoly and could charge their customers whatever they wanted. WGES is not regulated by the state and can by the electricity and gas for cheaper and sell it for cheaper.

For those of you who say that your bills went up it was probably because you used more electricity or gas in the next billing cycle. Energy supply companies only help you pay less for the electricity that is used.

Those door-to-door salesman who ask for your bills are not out to get your personal information they are only asking for your bill so that they can see if you qualify to enroll with the energy supply company and enrolling with the supply company will save you money because you will be paying less for the supply with them rather than the state regulated utility supply.

There is so much distrust in this world and everybody is ready to jump off the boat if they think something is to good to be true. OPEN YOUR EYES and you will see that energy choice is a law, not a scam.

I had a visit today about this. I didn't show him anything since it seems totally incorrect to me.
Tricked into contract

York, PA

#24 Jul 28, 2014
A salesman came to my door. He gave his song and dance. The numbers worked out and seemed legit. Now I am not one to sign on to ANYTHING requiring a contract or commitment of significant time, except for renting/purchasing. So when the guy was done his offer I said no thank you I don't agree into things I have not researched. He told me that it was completely risk free because there is no commitment and the laws give us the right to choose our energy supplier whenever we choose. So I said why not. While he was at my house I received a phone call from the person to set it up. They rambled quickly through their spiel and asked if I understood. Assuming that it is not legal to lie blatantly to a customer I assumed I was aware and understood.

Here it is a few months down the road and WGES has rates 33% higher than other in my area so I switched. Well they are right there is no commitment you can switch whenever... But it doesn't stop them from charging you whatever they want in the form of a cancellation fee.

It is not a scam. It is a sneaky, manipulative, and lie tactic to trick you into using them. You are still getting a product at an agreed cost. However you are trapped with them for at least 1 year.
