Democrats offer bill to curb Big Oil's tax benefits

Feb 13, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Reuters

Senate Democrats on Wednesday introduced a bill to eliminate billions of dollars in tax benefits enjoyed by big oil and gas companies, one day after President Barack Obama renewed his call for plugging tax loopholes in his State of the Union address.

Corporate Welfare should be eliminated. My question would be what took so long? Welfare is welfare, be it the guy with the 10 kids or the corportion with billions. Remember, with every action there is a reaction, and if you are not sure what the reaction will be, you should proceed with some level of caution

Of course you conveniently ignore the many green energy successes the taxpayers have supported and instead focus on a few high profile failures.
How many oil companies went bust when they were first starting up in the 1800's?
Do you really think Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company would have been successful without government collusion overlooking the MASSIVE pollution & environmental destruction, along with looking the other way on anti-trust issues?
Green energy is the future, but just like the early oil & gas industry it will go through growing pains; especially considering the environmental & anti-trust regulations in place today which didn't exist when oil & gas companies were raping the planet on there way to a defacto government protected monopoly on energy production.
All I hear is a lot of deflection, blame and excuses for Obama's payoffs to his donor crony Buddies.

Obama wants it done with private enterprise too, but that probably slipped your notice somehow. Making loans or grants to startups is something business loves, only ideological righties pretend to hate it.
The USPS would be just fine if Repubbies didn't impose special rules on the financing of their retirement healthcare, dummy. Look it up.

Ah, so now your advocating horse and mule to feed a world population of three billion...fkn brilliant.
You go ahead and walk...the rest of us will drive. Enjoy your backyard tomatoes...
They BUY healthcare for their employees...isn't that providing it??
Your liberal spin is in flames and heading downward..pull up commander!! You're going to crash.
No, buying healthcare isn't the same as providing healthcare. Just as buying gasoline isn't the same as refining it.

Where did I say I advocate returning to non-mechanized farming? I simply pointed out the fact that the world HAS provided all the food needed for the entire planet without such mechanization for millenia.

Btw, the population of the earth is over 6 billion, not 3 billion. But then you probably think the earth is only 6,000 years old and we're all descended from the same 2 people.....

Oh, and I DO enjoy my backyard tomatoes, as well as my potatoes, beans, onions, corn, melons, carrots, beets, stawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, apples, peaches, pears, plums, etc, etc, etc.

Providing food for a village in Africa is a helluva lot different than providing food for 100 million city ghetto dwellers who don't work..screwball. Are you really that ignorant...period??
The big food prodeucers of the world such as USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Argentian, etc. must have the fuel. Maybe you can grow bussell sprouts in your plot but many can't.
Whew, keep 'em coming. You're as funny as a nudist running through a briarpatch.
The population of the US in 1900 was over 76 million and we provided all the food we needed plus plenty left over for export- ALL WITHOUT WIDESPREAD MECHANIZED FARM EQUIPMENT.

If we can't do the same today, that just means the world is overpopulated. Maybe that is the problem which needs to be addressed.

What will all those millions of moronic city dwellers do when oil becomes so scarce & expensive that food can't be shipped to the cities? They'll starve to death. Sucks to be them. Maybe they should consider moving out of the deathtraps they call "cities" before it gets that bad.

As a practicing agriculturalist(farmer to you city boyz) I have a wee bit of an issue with what you claim to grow. You're growing strawberries, blueberries, raspb erries AND cranberries? In the same area? If so,you're GOOOOOOOD.... How big is your orchard? Are you using self-pollenating dwarfs?

Uh. Just where will all those moronic city dwellers go? The federal government isn't going to renew the homestead act. Private land is out of reach for many cost wise as well as accessibility. Besides, the government have MOST of them where it wants them. Why let them move? Sh1t,it took many years and BILLIONS of $$$ to get them where they are now. It ain't about to let them off the Plantation.....

Well as someone who grew up on a farm (that's farm boy to you agriculturalists), I can answer any questions you have about growing fruits & vegetables. Also if you need guidance on how to butcher chickens I can give you some pointers- i.e. DO NOT let them run around after you cut their heads off, you end up with blood everywhere and bruised meat when they run into a tree or the chicken coop wall!

My orchard covers about an acre; most of my trees are semi-dwarf, some are self-pollinating but I have at least 2 different varieties of each anyways to increase production.

My berries are mostly everbearing; I just put in a batch of blackberries which are supposed to be everbearing as well, but I haven't got my first crop off those yet.

I built a peat bog for my cranberries and if I can keep the deer & chickens off them I'll get a better crop next year.

I'm just saying the cities will be a deathtrap when the oil runs out and the power goes off. I'd actually prefer they stay right where they are as well and leave the countryside to the rest of us, but it's a free country.

In many parts of the country you can still buy a house on 10 acres for less than the rent on a average city apartment.
