I am not on the side of the industry, nor I do not sell cell phones service, but I have to agree with the service providers:
If customers want expensive phones for next to nothing, they need expect to have a cancellation fee for leavng early. If they do not want early termination fees, then they should expect to pay for the phone.
This practice by the phone companies prevents dishonest people from getting free phones or $300 phones at $50, then cancelling soon afterwards, selling the phones at a big profit, and just repeating it over and over again.

If they win, the phone companies save hundreds of millions yet the consumer loses. The phone companies need to start marketing their services, not motorola, samsung or others phones. Charge us what the phones cost, let us switch carriers anytime. Did you ever wonder why cell phone companies are not in the service business, but in the phone sales business. Let motorola and others sell their phones and let the phone companies provide us with phone service! Only when this happens will service improve.

Who is gonna pay 300.00 for a cellphone? i take sides with the carriers because there is a cost involved to giving equipment under cost and to activating and maintaining lines. If you don't want to be held to a contract, then shop elsewhere and pay a higher premium for what you get.

If any fees should be imposed it should be around $50.00 dollars at the least and that would be for One, Two or Three phones, and not each one. And also should be able to brake the contact at any given time. When you have poor service and support why deal with a company that doesn’t care about its customers. I was with Sprint for well over 8 years and paying big bucks every month but every time I needed something done to the phone I was stuck with another 3yr contract and then to top it off. They will gladly send you another phone for free only to get you trapped by having two phones at a rate of $250.00 for breaking a contract for each phone. And now I don’t have any phone, and they (Sprint) just now started issuing or offering a two yr contract. I only had two months left on my contract. And told them I would be changing carriers because it was a never ending struggle to get support. And I was getting too stressed out from talking to people from other countries just to get something done. I paid my bill and they still turned my phone off and made it look like I broke the contract when it fact it was them that broke the contract. So now I’ll build up some money and buy another phone from METRO PCS and just pay month to month at more than half the cost with no contract to be shafted for. And they also have Bluetooth capable phones as well, so when I drive I can focus on driving with two hands and still talk. Without my hand blocking my field of vision while driving. and I told them to shove it after

There are some very nice new unlocked phones available for 60 Bucks.
I have had my 39.99 1000 minute plan for eight years now.
When the phone begins to wear out I just buy another new one and change out sim cards.
I'm saving 240.00 a year just by not changing my plan, agreement or getting a new phone from these thieving monsters.
Best of all I have no stinking agreement and they can kissss my kraakk.
