You probably know Nolan Bushnell as the creator of Pong and Atari. And yes, the guy even gave us Chuck E. Cheese, for better or worse .

No, I didn't know Nolan created Pong, probably because he didn't. He saw Ralph Baer's Odyssey Console (the worlds first home video game) a month before and decided to give his new engineer - Al Alcorn a warm up project - design a TV Tennis game, since what Nolan wanted was a driving game and it would too hard as a first game to do.
Al Alcorn designed Pong, created the circuits, the multi-segmented paddles for different angles of rebound and it was Atari's co-founder Ted Dabney and Al Alcorn that literally had to drag Nolan kicking and screaming to take this "test game" and actually present it as a sellable product and it was a success despite Nolan not having faith in it originally.
If you want to really know the true history behind Atari, then you really need to head over to Amazon and pick up a copy of the new book - Atari Inc Business is Fun which has all of the real, unvarnished recounting of the true history of Atari and not the same regurgitated mistruths that have been parroted for 40 years.
