Just an FYI, That is just plain silly. If Micron fired everyone that has a bad attitude about the company, they would have no one left.

Micron is a high tech company, but they have way more important things to do than try to track down anonymous posters. Could they track us? Possibly but only if 1, the IP is logged and 2, the company that owns this web site stores that IP in a place that is accessible. Would they? No.

For those who are worried, turn off your DSL or cable modem (assuming you don’t have a static IP) for a short while and turn it back on. You will get a new IP assigned to you. The evil hacker that Micron uses to track down disgruntled employees will then have more trouble hacking.

And remember, The Matrix has you.

micron goes way back here in the valley. It was a salvation for the locals who were deemed not good enough for the HP'rs brought in from the west coast raising our property values and start the inflation/growth ball rolling.
We all benefited from micron in some way but it has changed and in a downturn created a monster that may well turn this valley upside down. just think who will buy all those houses that are mortgaged to the max and now over valued. it will get ugly

hope at least they don't scrimp on the severance packages.

Surely everyone is smart enough to post from a non-traceable computer.(Like me)

Anyway, the Topix.Net does not give out IP addresses unless they have a warrant. And so far none of these post break the law enough to need a warrant.

Micron can still kiss my backside.

As far as Micron being a good company, I have found you either love it or hate it. Right now, with this management team, I hate it. If it were managed better, it could be a world class company, but as long as Appleass is in charge, forget it.

Micron needs a massive change in management and a MUCH stricter HR department. When I was interviewed I was told by several people that Micron gave reviews every 6 months and a possible raise with each review. After being here more than six months I questioned management about my review and possible raise and was told that Micron doesn’t give raises and I was lied to by my recruiter “sorry”. One of my coworkers looked up Microns “policy” in Microns very own HR guide book and it stated that reviews were to be given every 6 months with the possibility of a raise. Upon showing this to management the response was “it’s a GUIDE book to be used as a guide not to be followed exactly as printed”. I made a commute half way across the country to work for this awesome company that treated its people in such a wondrous way; only to find out that I was “Lied to”. Someone in Micron upper management needs to step forward lay down the law and make ALL managers follow ALL of the rules period end of story. If managers do not obey what the company says to do FIRE them, they do not have the right to change HR rules and regulations. The guide is there as a structure a frame for the company to stand on, when every manager decides to change the rules a little then the company has no back bone and will collapse. I have found from asking around that some members of management follow the guide to the letter and that they have had raises without a change of level ie.. associate tech to tech 1 or tech 2. These employees are much happier and love working for Micron. It may be good if Black Stone were to buy us out, I have a feeling that if they did there would be many good changes within Micron. Remember a happy workforce will give 150% where as an unhappy one only gives 100% or less. Someone in corporate control needs to WAKE UP crack that power full whip put the company back in line and save Micron from itself!

I agree Problems!

Micron is the only game in town. I was recruited from another state and was told that Micron give advancements and raises. Never had a formal reveiw after 5 years with Micron. Never got a raise. Although, I am told I do a great job and got some papers from my supervisor that says so. He also says I have to wait for a 'Radford' adjustment to get a raise.

I do all they ask and can't even get a cost of living raise out of them. My problem is now I live here in Boise, and Micron is the only game in town and I can't afford to move. Plus, I really do like Boise. It is a great town. To bad the company I work for sucks so bad.

Hahahahaha!

I've seen members of leadership get promoted just because the departement they came from didn't want them anymore (i.e. to lazy, or untrainable). Is there any wonder to why Micron is ran so poorly? Maybe Mr. Appletosh...I mean Appleton should hire a nobody to go around to each department and write reports on EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THE PLACE. That way he wouldn't get the kiss@$$ attitude he's used to getting....

But why would he want to do that after all....?

I recently left Micron for another job opportunity. I must say that my personal experience at Micron was great. I worked with great people and was treated and compensated well. My efforts were appreciated and recognized both verbally and monitarily.
I believe Micron is going through what MANY large companies experience. As a company grows it has a tendency to become very top heavy if not watched closely. Eventually it gets to the point where it is extremely inefficient. What you end up with is the current situation at Micron. Management that is unaware of what goes on beneath them, unwilling to involve themselves in what goes on beneath them. It's like a ship without a healm. You end up with middle management doing nothing important and a workforce busting their butts but accomplishing nothing.
There is certainly some good ol' boy network. But at the same time, Micron cares about the community and its employees. In a way, they have a hard time saying no to inefficient growth. So the problem worsens to the point many of you are experiencing now. They try to implement programs (like the performance management goal system) which only makes people unhappy. Eventually the only solution is massive restructure and layoffs.
Boise is a wonderful place. In fact its the only place I've lived that felt like home. Micron has played a large part in making Boise what it is. It will be sad if a large layoff is necessary as it truly would have a large negative impact to that beautiful city.
I think its important not to single Micron out on this. This situation is typical of large companies throughout the world. It's unfortunate that we can't always have qualified people calling the shots. Micron plays in a very rough industry. I certainly hope the company does not fall. It's an iconic american company. And who knows maybe after you all get layed off, I can move back there and buy one of your houses for dirt cheap. Hee Hee, just kidding.

There are rumors flying around about layoffs happening today or Friday. Has anything happened to anyone's knowledge? This whole thing is making people crazy. Micron needs to either lay people off or stop the rumors. Either way its starting to get old.

I hope you are not working for Micron. Attitudes like that are not needed on our team!

Igor, I am not sure I have any faith to keep. Micron basically sucks. I have been in the semiconductor industry for close to 30 years. Micron is the worst company I have ever worked for, but at least they are still in business.
Other companies I worked for gave raise and good benefits. Micron don't give raises. I know many employees that have not had a raise in many years. They keep cutting benefits and taking away the good incentive bonuses and replacing them with a stupid goals program.
All the time, the managers are riding around in Million dollar go karts in the desert. Appleton, Hawkins, Durcan are all part of the good ole boy system. Micron will not be profitable until we get real managers, not a bunch of kids that ride around in go karts and call it advertising.
Like I said, Micron Sucks!

I think we all can agree that it would be helpful if Micron Management would communicate with their employees.
Management also needs to remember that this company as a whole is the team.
Employees need to remember this too.

I think he is right. I was an employee and I could not agree more. Worked for a few fortune top 20 companies. Micron is the worst one, no doubt about it. If you don't know it, either you are not seeing the "big picture", never worked for another company, never worked for any good company or you are "in your dream". Your boss may be good for you but most of people are suffering.

I've worked for Micron for well over 10 years and it's been a good company to work for in the past. I think everyone can agree it's rough right now and a lack of communication from management isn't helping, but you do have to keep in mind that if something big is going on, like a sale of the company, they are not going to say a word until they are ready for it to be public knowledge as it WILL be in the Idaho Statesman later that same day...Other places I've worked had a formal review structure that forced supervisors to keep up on performance management and those were better places to work. All us peons can do for now is keep doing our jobs to the best of our abilities and see what happens, or go find another job!

Insider, I'd like to let you know your last comment made it on one of the local news broadcasts. Micron's response to the news agency was........."We do not comment on rumors or speculation."

.......... Idiots.

"Don't comment on rumors or speculation"... I feel its safe to say that if management doesn't talk their employees then why in the world would the company as a whole do it? They have a big problem understand that the people who make this company run are the people in the FABs moving the wafers and working on the tools and the people outside of the fab supporting them with supplies and knowledge. Its not what manager wins the sports pool this week or how many cigars you give out because we hit a certain amount of outs. Its about how you treat the people (whom you remind everyday should be like family). Well, if you treat your family by keeping them in the dark and letting them worry about if they are going to have a job the next morning when they wake up... then I guess that speaks miles about where this company will head. No where. Which is sad because it was a great company at one time, and it could be again. However, the mighty need to remember they fall just as easy as the weak. They wonder why so many problems are happening in the fabs. Its not lack of training or the tools, its because people are starting to care as little about Micron as Micron cares about them... and that will pull us all under.

Micron is a good company to work for, always. Micron encourage individual to work hard and to advance to his/her own potential. As an individual worker, each of must deliver results. It does not matter how hard or how many hour we put into the task. We must deliver success results at the end of our shift or else we loose a step to our competition. This is a raw and cold mentality indeed, but that is why we are in a "cut throat" business of consumer electronics.
If this Friday, I would loose my job. I will strive and will find another opportunity elsewhere. Micron in my mind is still a good company to work for.
I worked for micron for 5 years and found it to be the most horaid place I have ever worked. I have to agree with the others; they treat you like a number unless you eat, sleep and sh*t micron 24/7. I havent worked there for 2 years but moral sucked then!
My prayers are with all the workers and their families.

This is what ktvb.com reported
it sounds like downsizing and outsourcing to me.

"During the earnings call, one analyst asked company CEO Steve Appleton about the possibility of layoffs

"Clearly those are what you would think of as the more typical things a company would do. I think I would characterize it as having a lower level of employment as we complete these initiatives," Appleton said. "In other cases, we are looking to eliminate functions or partner with people who can do them better than us."

No further detail on those work force changes was detailed."

WOW... What a way to learn you're going to be laid off. By the news...

Guess I should go get my "pink slip" now that I "know."

I heard they're outsourcing assembly and moving test to china.

Some of the things that go on in this country are completely unbelieveable.

I found Micron to be a fair employer until the last couple of years. At that time the workload soared but additional people were not provided. This is sure recipe for employee burnout.

There is less teamwork now and more department against department politics.

concerning some potential BIG customer technical issues, Micron does tend to hide their head in the sand.

Micron corporate ethics? It needs some work.
