Auto review: A glimmer of hope for Pontiac's reputation

What typifies a Pontiac in 2008? A GTO? Nope, it's gone. Bonneville? Gone. Firebird and Fiero? Long gone.

After all this time (and especially NOW with gas at an all time high) you'd have thunk that American car companies would have gotten the message - high horsepower, low gas mileage, 4000 pounds, and BOTH prefer premium!!! Looks like a recycled Grand Am (yet ANOTHER Pontiac classic) and has all the customer appeal of a cross between the Edsel and the AMC Javelin. Who runs these companies and WHY do they still have jobs?.

Yeah Right, another gas guzzling American Zip car ! Who Cares ? How about making it get 40 miles per Gallon cause 0-60 times don't keep the money in the bank, MILEAGE does.$ 4.00 a GALLON, and Headed North and we still have the Oil Company shill in the Whitehouse, so how about a review of the Honda Motor Scooter with a 1 cylinder engine cause its where America is headed.

I agree. Based on those pictures, one of the most homely-looking pieces of industrial design I have ever seen....

And we wonder why Detroit's Big Three are nearly out of Business? This type of design work is unacceptable -- it looks as if the Soviets tried to design a sports car in 1978.....

Compkiller, go take a look and test drive the G8 before judging it. This 'unacceptably' designed car won numerous awards when it came out (as the Holden Commodore) in Australia in 2006. It is a fantastic ride, and it looks much better in person. It is a Pontiac in name only, and we are lucky to have it.

So that's why my $600 bicycle was stolen off my townhouse patio? A $28,000 base price for hard seats, hard steering, & 17mpg on premium fuel ? There is No glimmer of hope here. General Motors will be bankrupt in less than a year.

I drove the car, and it's very impressive. It is quick, stylish, and very roomy. Yes, it does eat gas, but honestly face the facts - you can either afford it, or you can't. When a 2 ton car for under 30k can smoke a 65k BMW what can you complain about. Hard seats, yeah right...if you want hard seats go drive a Ferarri, Audi R8, and the BMW M3- all cars that cost 5x the price as this car, with the exception of the BMW. In conclusion, the car is doing very well in Australia under Holden, and from what I've been told, they cannot keep this car in the showroom here. If you want to save gas, go buy a prius, and if you want to show some muscle, get the G8!
