I hope that these children earned their awards fair and square. I know that sometimes, there's favoritism because of wealth, gender or race, which sometimes cannot be proven. Our Counselors should be monitoring these awards and they should also be fair and just. There's too many crooked things going on these days, hence, natural disasters, especially since they've intensified. If we're not careful, these disasters could happen to us. We need to make peace with one another, be fair and help those who may struggle. I am proud of all of our youth. They have more adversity than our forefathers and the rest of us but, still prevail. Some children are just plained spoiled, receiving everything from parents but not deserving. Others are not receiving but are deserving. "Parents, do not harm your children in any way. Be kind to them and listen to them. Do not award them if not deserving. Set boundaries and be strong". Aloha Ke Akua.

Good job Star-Bulletin. We need to hear more success stories about our people. Serves as an inspiration for the rest of us. Linda Lingle was right. Hawaii's people are one of our greatest resources and we should support and develop their talent.

I don't see any Hawaiian names, how come eh? Come on Hawaiian's, make the word Hawaiian have some meaning to it. Parents teach your children well, don't just teach them to play video games.

It's quite obvious that Iolani has the most academic students on this island. They always out number Punahou in scholar awards whether it be the National Merit or Sterling Award. Iolani must have better instructors and smarter students or is Punahou over-rated?
