All this talk about education starting at home is nonsense. Yes, parents play a vital role in raising a child, but education is primarly the responsibilty of the schools that are out there. While we work, the majority of our children attend public schools that we pay for, because most of us don't have the luxury of home schooling our children. The private schools don't use our tax dollars to pay for their teachers and facilities so we have not right to complain about what they do. If parents are supposed to be educating their children then do away with schools and see where that gets us. Stop the righteous talk and check back in to reality. You all sound like a band of mahus.

Bobbi you sound nuts and should look in the mirror and see what you see. You're not a teacher so don't tell us what we supposed or not supposed to do. I do what I like and preach that parents should be more involved with their kids. If we did, then all this trouble with our youth would be capped downward. The lying, prejudice, waste of minds is something we need to alleviate and capture. Alooooooooooooooohaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaa

Question on Admission

will wrote: <quoted text> I didn't even need to take my dictionary out! And the point is that they are following the will, maybe not the spirit that you want, but they are following the Princess' wishes as written. Interesting so the “will” says to interview the parents as well. My granddaughter’s parents both work so they can provide for their family. So we grandparents took her to the interview. So we must have also been interviewed and studied without our knowledge. Maybe I should have worn my “malo”.

Build a Kamehameha School on Kaua'i and preschools (throughout the state) for all Hawaiian kids (2-4 years old) who live below the poverty line. Please. JMiguel

Most educational researchers say that kids learn very little in "school" as currently organized. They learn most of what they know and will need to know later to survive and prosper as an adult from their PEERS...a little from their parents and also print and electronic media. So if your kids is bored of school and doesn't want to go...give him a break and let him say home and go surfing in the ocean or on the Internet...he'll learn more there...than at school. Don't believe me? Try to remember one thing you learned in school. JMiguel

Who decided what kids should learn in school? What do kids in Finland, France, The Netherlands, Singapore, China, Japan, and Germany learn in school that is different from the U.S. curriculum? Please remind KSBE that in the Scandinavian and many European countries college is paid for by the government. JMiguel

My child is graduating from Kamehameha Schools next week. He's been there since kindergarten. I don't consider my family as being in the "elite" group...what ever that means. I've been a single mother with 3 children for the last 12 years, working and caring for them on my own... no big deal...many do it. It makes me wonder why people bash the school when they are trying to do something good, regardless of how small (or big) some may feel the gesture is. You'd be bashing them if they didn't offer any type of help. It's never enough. Compare the tuitions of other private schools next to Kamehameha's tuition. No one (school, business, individual) can help every person out there. There is a lot to the admission process that many don't have a clue about. FYI, from what I remember back when I applied my child, the largest number of children who are accepted come from low income families and orphaned children.

I think what Kamehameha is doing is terrific. This is an attempt to get an education to deserving kids while future plans for more campuses are being put together. Education is the mana to success. Hawaiian kids can be taught to become the leaders of tomorrow. If they can pass the entrance tests for admittance to other private schools then they will have the opportunity to learn without all the worry about the tution. This expands the opportunities for Hawaiians, again by the graciousness of Pauahi. IMUA!

Pros_ Cons of funds
|
Are you really sure that the funds do help children of Hawaiian ancestry and other cultures? The board of trustees are getting paid way too much to over see where the monies are going. Are you folks certain its not going into their pockets or the pockets of their friends and family? My child sought out help from the kemehameha scholarship fund, all they kept telling my child was that they had no funds available. I'm beginning to think thats their common quote to every Hawaiian or part Hawaiian child in need. I have a grandchild that is part hawaiian and in need of help in school. Yet there is no one offering any type of help from Kamehameha funding or avenues from them on where we could go to seek monies to help get my grandchild into something like sylvan schools. I JUST THINK THE KAMEHAMEHA FUNDING IS A BIG FAT HOAX. ITS ALL ABOUT THE WHO YOU KNOW BIT AND ITS STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE IN TODAYS SOCIETY AMONGST THE GREEDY MONEY GRABBERS THAT ARE AFFILIATED WITH THE KAMEHAMEHA SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMS AND ANY PROGRAMS THAT THE MONIES FROM THE QUEEN'S FUNDING GOES TO. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AROUND AND SEE WHAT YOUR EYES ARE NOT TAKING IN,,,LOOK AT THE HOMELESS, ALOT OF THEM ARE TIED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER TO THE QUEEN. WHERE IS THE HELP FOR THEM??? WHO'S REACHING OUT TO THEM? WHY DON'T YOUR BOARD TELL EVERYONE WHERE THE HELP IS SO THAT ALOT OF THESE HAWAIIAN FAMILIES COULD GET SOME OF THE HELP FOR THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN INSTEAD OF SITTING ON YOUR BUTTS AND LIVING THE HIGH LIFE WITH THE MONIES THAT SHOULD ACTUALLY GO TO REALLY HELPING OUT THE HAWAIIANS, THEIR CULTURE AND BELIEFS. WHAT IS THE BOARD DOING ABOUT IMPLEMENTING MORE HAWAIIAN STUDIES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS SINCE THAT IS WHERE THE MAJORITY OF HAWAIIAN ANCESTRY CHILDREN ATTEND.
