The amazing thing about this article is not the fact that out and out criminal activity has been uncovered at the school but that fact that the crimes are being swept under the rug. You "lose" over a million dollars in ticket sales, you have millions of dollars in "lost equipment.

The school blames the problems on not enough accountants and software! They also barely vote out the current president!

People need to be put in jail and this school shouldn't receive a dime of additional tax paper money unless they can provide a certified accounting of their funds.

Every word that you have written is true, and there should be accountability for these criminal activities. However, this is the ONLY HBCU (Public University) in the State of Florida; and therefore, it MUST be saved. Our society has not evolved to the point where blacks receive an equal opportunity to attend colleges when compared to whites. Florida must save FAMU at all cost for the sake of diversity and our young black youths.

I've got an idea....why don't you "save" it with YOUR money....not mine and nor other hard-working, taxpayer dollars.

Oh boy, here we go again. Google Morris Brown College in Atlanta and look what happened there. Same stuff. Wanna guess what these schools have in common??? Spellman and Morehouse have also had their share of recent issues as well. These people couldn't properly run a lemonade stand, let alone a university...

You have got to be kidding me (in fact I think this post has to be a joke).

With affirmative action, blacks don't have to have near the qualifications to get into college as whites do. That is one of the reasons behind "One Florida", which would essentially eliminate race-based admissions. The whole system is simply not fair and not necessary anymore. Any black student who has the wherewithall can get into just about any college in the country. Any black person who has not taken advantage of 40+ years of affirmative action has nobody to blame but themselves.

And by the way, have you seen the minority enrollment at FSU? There are plenty of black students at FSU. The statement that society hasn't evolved to the point of them having equal opportunity to get into college is a joke.

How about the formation of an historically White university.
Ken Jenne graduated from FAU and FSU. He couldn't even manage to lose or embezzle as much as the FAMU administrators.

With the birthrate of some minority groups in this country we will need a historically White college someday. Whites are fast becoming the minority.

As parent of a sophomore attending FAMU I am extremely concerned with this problem. I have been watching this from a distance ( moved away from S. Fla 10 years ago ) for about 2 years now ( Embarrassing), hoping that this would go away but that is not going to be the case. I am starting feel like we ( my family ) are wasting time and money at FAMU. My biggest question is " who stole the money and why are they not being prosecuted?" I am going to advise my student to start seeking a transfer before we come out of this mess with nothing to show for it. FAMU I believe has one of the highest tuition rates in FL for a state school. Are the current students having to pay more for the mistakes of others?

Oh, please give us ALL a break! I recently retired from a public service position, and during those 30+ years, can assure you that minorities received EVERY possible break in continuing their education.

Well, at least the blacks who WANTED to continue their education!

Castell V. Bryant, the president responsible for that problem, is out of office. The new president, James H. Ammons, has a strong record of fiscal management. Let's give him a chance to right the ship.

FAMU's overall fiscal record is strong. From 1978 to 2002, FAMU all FAMU's financial statement audits wree clean. All the state audits were unqualified up until 2006.

FAMU had some bad leadership after 2002. However, that period is over. A new president with a proven record of strong financial management is in charge. Things are already getting better.

Every institution has a history regardless of whether it's been around for 10 years or 100 years. FGCU is an historically and predominantly white institution.

FAMU is an outstanding academic institution. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies FAMU as a Doctoral Research University.

The Carnegie classification system is the nationally accepted standard for categorizing universities. Your attempts to talk down FAMU run contrary to that nationally accepted standard.

President Castell V. Bryant was not "voted out." She resigned shortly before she heard that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools planned to place FAMU on probation for the gross mismanagement that took place under her watch.

Bryant loved to try and claim that she "inherited" her problems from previous administrations. However, the facts do not support her claim. SACS recognized FAMU as having a clean bill of health during every review cycle before Castell's tenure.

Most FAMUans agree that there should be a forensic audit and criminal investigation into what happened under Castell's watch. In particular, Castell chose to fire the university inspector general after he opened up an internal investigation into her books.

Still, there are many members of the Florida Board of Governors such as Carolyn Roberts who do not want to see Castell investigated. Roberts is doing everything possible to protect Castell from any further scrutiny.

FAMU is a good school. Of the thousands of colleges in America, the majority are poorly managed and most are near broke. The faculty is what matters at a school.

Some of you need to stop looking at people's skin and start realizing that all of us have souls, and the souls are the same color.
