I work nights - I never want these people - legit or not - EVER knocking on my door. It would be like me knocking on everyone else's door at 3AM, and telling you you must "deal with it" as it is a 1st Amendment issue, and of supreme importance. NO SOLICITING signs are on our front door, and anyone not adhering ...well, good luck. You don't have a "right" to disturb me in my home, esp. given working hours and sleep time in our home.

I agree with anon 100%. I also think these pests should be charged with littering when they dump flyers in my door and on the porch. If I want your product I'll contact you.

I have an idea!! How about you knock on my door because you "Have the right"' and I answer the door with a gun in my hand because "I have the right", and we will see who gets the heck off my porch first. I love little kids but I don't want them knocking either. Last spring I even had a teenager knock and want to know if I would donate money for his class trip.

If people refuse telephone calls and door knocks, throw away any "junk" mail, and get all their info from television news and shrinking newspapers, how will candidates ever be able to introduce themselves to the voting public? Incumbents can always find ways to get coverage, but newcomers find it harder and harder to get any mention in the media.

Kind of makes you feel stupid if a stranger knocks on the door and I sit in the living room, just smiling and waving...

I say this is a violation of the people's right of privacy when these people come knocking on our doors around dinner time or on the weekends. If freedom of speech is the case that gives them the right to come to my door, then I have the same right to tell them to get the hell off my property or they will be meeting my two bouncers, their last names are Smith & Wesson! So get running!

Even my friends know if they come to my house without me knowing they are coming, I will not answer my door. In the warmer weather when my living room door is open and someone comes, I look when they knock, then wave and go back to my reading or whatever I am doing. At first they would stand there for a long time waiting for me to answer the door, now they make sure to call and let me know they want to come over. Yea, it po'ed a few of them, but it is my right to not be bothered if I don't want to be. As for these strangers at my door trying to sell or push religion literature on me, I merely close the door in their faces. I too am sick of the school system getting these kids out selling over priced items to us with hopes of being the highest seller for a "prize". This is the same cheaply made stuff they were sending home with my kid when he was in school. I never let my son try to push this stuff on anyone. As if I don't already get enough crap in my e-mail, snail mail and left on my front porch.

In regards to the no trespassing signs, you would have to hope that they can read, and that that they understand what trespassing is.
I don't want them calling, I don't want them knocking. And they don't always go away when you don't answer. I've had them keep knocking or better yet, try a different door.

They get to harass people by continuing to knock, what about the homeowner's poperty/privacy rights? These canvassers harass they don't just knock and go away in respect. Columbus needs to do something because it is out of hand. And they want people to stay in Columbus? These people have knocked (no uniforms or id) up to 5,6 times, that is harassment, I would go as far to say threatening behavior. Is this their training?

What a bunch of whiners! Perhaps you all should use the opportunity to work on your social skills, especially courtesy. This goes double for the gun nuts.

Nope... If someone dares to knock on my door, he deserves to be shot. It's in the Second Amendment!

You seem REAL confused. Who should work on social skills? Canvassers or individuals at their property not soliciting? Watch it you seem real confused. Canvassers lack respect for the people who's doors they knock on. Courtesy is: if you knock once and no answer, GO AWAY!

Not answering the door is not about courtesy it is your right!

Ninety seconds of brainpower and your problem is solved.
