This Is Not A Game

I know jobs are hard to come by but if any child goes to bed hungry in Luna County it is because they have bad parents. There are food stamps, free breakfast and lunch during the school year and free lunches during the summer.
There is welfare, Medicaid, HUD housing and day care help and I don't know how many other programs.
It is still fairly cheap to eat if you cook from scratch, you could grow a 4X4 garden to supplement for a very reasonable price.
But, hey, isn't easier to cry for government help than to do something for yourself and your family?
To me, Luna County is a case study in what happens when you start to rely on government to be your nanny. You get the subsistance mentality and lose your ambition. You don't get ahead in life but it is too hard to get a job that pays enough to leave behind that safety net.
It is very obvious that government does not create sustainable jobs from which more sustainable jobs grow, it stunts the people and their mentality.

I agree with everything that Incredulous said. We have become a nanny state in which its often much easer to let Uncle Sam take the load than Man Up and fight your way to a better life.
That said, I think the jist of the article was that in our current political environment, way too many people are thinking in black and white. We need to be more open minded to the fact that not every Republican policy is evil and not every Democratic policy is socialist. Wouldnt it be great if we judged our candidates based on their track record and not on the retoric of a political party? I know. Its a pipe dream. But I like the sound of it anyway.
