I'm a contractor as well and find it amazing how BP ignores everyone. I've had issues with BP and have been put aside. No one calls me back or anything. All they care about is making money and dont give a F about customer service.

I've known people who use to work at BP and left because they werent even treated well by their own company. Every company goes through lawsuits but have bounced back. I don't believe this is the case for BP

Oh my gosh! I live in a circle and there was a storm earlier this year. My insurance came out twice and said that the reason my roof was so bad is because I have Cetainteed organic shingles. No hail damage....two other homes right next to me had their whole roof replaced. Now I received this form from Certainteed and need to get pictures, pull off shingle, figure out squares used, send utility bill, and try to find something where they were installed almost 10 years ago. I remember the roof was over $6K and now I understand that they will only reimburse the shingle cost and no labor to put the roof on.....what a rip off! This has been horribe and no help! When you call the Certainteed number for help or questions, it places you on hold and then disconnects. Any ideas??? Sad......

What did you do to get Cetainteed to at least pay for the shingles? I thought it was too late to file a claim.

I had 35 year BP Elcipse shingles installed 12 years ago. About 5 years after installation the pebbles on the shingle started to appear in the gutters and now the roof needs to be replaced. The same issues everyone has complained about here - curling edges, material falling off, drying out.
Looks like others blazed the trail and there was a Class Action Law Suit, unfortuntaely they only pay for the really bad areas and you have to use their inferior product. You would think in these law suits it would be a cash payout. Now either I put another crappy BP shingle on my house and saddle the next guy or do it right. I'm doing the latter. The roofer said nobody is using BP shingles, he won't install them and they are stacked up at the yards - they can't give em away.
BP: Defective shingles, poor customer service - only paid due to the law suit and a horrible settlement means that in the end, homeowners pay the entire freight. You should be ashamed of yourselves for not taking caring of your customers. I would not recommend BP products after this experience.
The consumer never wins in these settlements, only the company and the lawyers involved.

You have the entire length of the shingle warranty to file a claim with Certainteed. However, I would suggest calling a storm damage specialist contractor to handle the paperwork.

Getting the dimensions of the home, photos of damage, repair/replacement of the shingle for verification is a pain and Certainteed pays contractors $50 for their time (you pay the contractor $50, Certainteed reimburses you)

The average claim refund from Certaineed in the Minneapolis/St Paul area (usually a 20 square or more roof) has been between $500 to $1200.

Again, call a storm damage specialist roofing contractor, if there has been a storm in your area with either wind or hail, they will know about it. Insurance companies cannot drop your insurance for starting a claim due to storm damage as long as it's tied to a specific storm. The contractor can determine if there is enough damage to file a claim.

Allen,

Did you have the product professinally installed? If so, contact the contractor, any reputable one will have a 15 year workmanship warranty, which after only a couple of years and them blowing off sounds more like the case than faulty shingles.

We have been through TWO Certainteed Class Action Lawsuits. The first one was from our orginal roof installed in 1983. The most recent one is from the replaced roof and is part of the Organic Shingles lawsuit. My question: has anyone out there been able to get more than what the lawsuit offered such as compensation for damaged eaves, landscaping, etc.? What the heck is going on in America today when companies like Certainteed can continue to produce and sell defective products? It should not be so difficult to get compensated for a companies' mistake!! These class action lawsuits are a joke when it comes to be compensated for these kinds of mistakes.

We had a garage built with cement work years ago. The cement cracked everywhere and all through the garage floor. Complain we did and then they went out of business.
