I built my home in 1998. It was suggested by my contractor to spend $500 extra and upgrade my shingles to a higher grade of Certainteed. This upgrade would provide 30 years of serviceable roof. It is now going on 14 years and the shingles have been curling and in a constant state of failure. I have emailed the company complaining of the quality of the product. No response from the company has come to me as of yet. I am considering contacting the Minnesota Attorney General about this.

I purchased a new townhome in 1998. I had to replace the shingles in 2006 because they had curled and were leaking. How do I join this lawsuit? My townhome insurance did not cover replacing the shingles so I paid the cost. [email protected]

This is just ridiculous! Our insurance company is threatening us with dropping our home insurance if we don't have these replaced ASAP-which has many implications. Additionally, they are happy to put us on risk insurance so we can pay more and still pay for the entire roof replacement - yes, that sounds good and will most certainl help our family finances! We simply don't have the 10K it'll cost to do this and with the economy the way it is I am sick of being penalized for trying to do the right thing. All we want is something fair done-we are not trying to win the lottery here. Why should we pay for the labor to put these on - we've already paid once. Between the theats by big business and punishment for not being in the upper 3% of the money makers - how much do they really think the regular people can stand. And, SHAME ON THE INSURANCE COMPANIES for threatening their customers - if I were to do this to them, I would have the law after me for harrassment. I'd like to see someone step up to the plate for the change - it'd be nice to see some hope around this community. Additionally, if there is a law suit, and it's possible to sign up, and you at KAAL believe it's important to us - which it is, why don't you actually have the link to the attorney available on the website too - that would be infinitely helpful.

This article is very timely as I am preparing to file a claim with CertainTeed for my failing roof that was installed in 1992 and are supposed to be 25 yr shingles. Who would I contact to sign on with this lawsuit? A roofing contractor or a lawyer or both?

I work for Certainteed and they will do everything they can to cheat the customer. I have seen their lawyers in action and believe me, ethics is way out the window with this bunch. If they loose this lawsuit, they will take the money out of their hourly workers pockets to pay for it while they line managements with more and more!

I had CertainTeed Landmark shingles put on my house in June 1999 and on the back side, all the granular has come off. CT will not pay anything saying this is normal aging. It looks hedious. Because these are fiberglass, they cannot be included in the class action filed by www.halunenlaw.com . Does anyone out there know of a good attorney that will gfile a lawsuit in Minnesota

I too, like Bob had CT fiberglass shingles put on my house in 2003 when it was built. They are their New Horizon model. Most of the granules have come off the roof as well and it is very visible from the road and looks horrible. CT also gave me the statement that this is normal aging. I caught the singles in time and filed a warranty claim within the first five years so mine should be covered by their sure start warranty, but as normal CT is denying my claim. If any one knows of a law firm that is filing a class action suit against CT for their fiberglass shingles please post the name of the law office and their contact information. Those of us with fiberglass shingles would be very grateful.

Visit the MN Attorney General's website, you should be able to get some help there.

I have filed a suit in the small claims court of Adams County for $5000.00 against Certainteed. My first appearance is Dec.19th. If anyone out there can send me an email with any information I can use.I will keep you posted with my progress.

A suit in small claims court will be especially effective in a state that has a certainteed office or warehouse because if you win you can get a judgement against any assets they will have there. My email address is [email protected]

p.s. It is easier than you think to file in small claims court

Does anyone have any update on the certainteed class action suit? This has been so frustrating! The last I heard it could take up to 3 years to get this resolved. I really do not have that long, as my roof needs repairing now!!!!

Everytime, it is windy, my shingles fall like like leaves from a tree. It is being said that CertainTeed has been using a faulty glue.
First, my homebuilder promised me to fix my roof using hand sealing. Later they denied.
I do not know who is the crook my homebuilder CENTEX) or CertainTeed.
Both lack moral.

Which type of Certainteed shingles did you have? All the claims/complaints I read about are for the Horizon shingles, how about the Hearthstead?

Has anyone actually been successful in small claims court with the Certain Teed shingle issues or dealing with Certain Teed directly? I need to do something as my shingles put on in 1999 are in horrible shape!

We built our home in 2002 and put certainteed shingles on it. From what I understand they were the organic ones. They are falling apart. The granules are falling off and the edges are curling. They have to be replaced before winter so that further damage does not occur to the structure. We do not have the money to replace the shingles. This could break the bank for us in this economy. So frustrating, working hard to not even make ends meet and now this. I guess we're going to have to join the lawsuit and hope for the best.
