I just cannot stand the fact that the parents - who have money - only paid a fine. They are the ones that came up with the plan to protect their son. They are bums and should be in jail with their son. I just can't believe that there wasn't any kind of "conspiracy to evade" type of charge that could have gotten them some jail time. Those two are real losers in my opinion - of course along with their son.

If anyone actually thinks this plea deal will be rejected by the judge, they've got another thing coming. Judges in CT take their orders from the criminals, not from us. I'm betting the judge might even impose a more lenient sentence than the plea deal!
You are absolutely correct, and I am sure she has a highly paid attorney. However in CT she would be better off with the Public Defender. CT Judges are terrified of the PD Office and their threats of tying up the court system with trials so they give them whatever they want in the way of a plea bargain

Nothing will excuse fleeing the scene, but we are missing lots of relevant information. Was Wines drunk herself (she was out at 2am after all)? Did she lurch out into the road? Was she wearing dark clothing? We just don't have enough information to know if under the circumstances she would have been struck and killed by a stone cold sober driver who happened to be on the road at the same time and place. Therefore, from the facts as we know them, what is clearly inexcusable is the coverup, not necessarily the killing.
Does anyone remember being 19? Kids panic. Do we want to ruin their lives? Does anyone think they had malice in their hearts or were they just typically narcissistic college students?
How many of you are ready to pay more taxes to build more prisons and hire more guards?
There's a big difference between the way you think, and the way I think. I do remember what it was like when I was 19. If I had ever accidentally hit a person in the road, I could never take off. Never. Even if I had been drinking. I'd be more interested in possibly saving that persons life, no matter what. To your second question, do I think they had malice in their hearts? Well, it certainly seemed that way for the weeks that followed. To go through the troubles that they went through in an effort to hide what happened, shows how they really felt, all of them. You're right, we don't know all the facts, but the facts I just pointed out, we do know. And that, my friend, is enough justification for me. Sorry, but I don't buy you spin.

The criminal here is Alvino. He hit the girl. He didn't stop. He didn't report it. Yes, Hall said "go, go," but we're all responsible for our own actions. Should she really go to prison just because she said "go, go" in the heat of the moment. Sounds vindictive to me. Honestly, the sentence seems very harsh. I would have expected this to be an AR granted.
Would you still feel that way if it were your child? She should get more than just 6 months.

A STONE COLD SOBER PERSON WOULD HAVE STOPPED TO HELP WINES, NOT LEAVE HER DYING IN THE ROAD. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED AN ACCIDENT NOT A CRIME IF THEY HAD NOT LEFT HER DYING IN THE ROAD.
YES, I DO REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE 19 BUT I WAS RAISED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY ACTIONS. I WAS NOT RAISED TO LEAVE A PERSON DYING IN THE ROAD AFTER A NIGHT OF DRINKING.
I HAVE A NIECE ATTENDING UCONN AND I WOULD NOT WANT THESE CRIMINALS (AND THEY ARE CRIMINALS) TO KILL HER AFTER A NIGHT OF DRINKING. THEY ARE CRIMINALS AND SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OR PLEAD GUILTY THEN THEY SHOULD GO TO JAIL. IF THAT MEANS THEIR LIVES ARE RUINED, TOO BAD. MISS WINES IS DEAD AND THEY DESERVE WHATEVER PUNISHMENT THE JUDGE GIVES THEM.
IT DOES NOT MATTER IF MISS WINES WAS DRUNK OR WHETHER SHE WAS WEARING DARK CLOTHES. SHE WAS A VICTIM NOT A CRIMONAL.
<quoted text>
I agree 100%. Being 19 doesn't relieve them from responsibility for what they did or didn't do, like stopping to help her. People just don't want to take responsibility for their actions anymore. Now people want to blame the victim because, "maybe she had dark clothes on." I sincerely doubt these two individual's lives will be ruined, but perhaps they'll learn a valuable lesson.

unbelievable how mean people can be.

I can only imagine how horrified michele hall felt after the accident - probably in shock, and a freshman,. 1 life was lost and yet the victims parents have this desire to destroy yet another life. to send this person to prison -- i cant imagine the joy that these people would feel by doing this to destroy someones life by sending them to prison - never to be the same again, does this really make you feel good -?

i myself have a hard time understanding how putting someone in jail makes someone feel better - because you are in pain from a loss -you have this need to make sure someone else suffers twice as much to compensate for your ills

life is too short - there is no need to make this young womans life even shorter

For your info. He had no prior record for any offense. He had also given hundreds of thousands of dollars to many of the charities in and around the Hartford area. Basically he was a good person who made a stupid error in judgment.

The judge who sentenced him didn't take any of this into consideration and said he wanted to make an example of him.

Granted he committed a crime and should have been punished, but 10 years in prison.

There's a big difference between possessing a stolen vehicle and murdering someone with a vehicle then trying to cover it up.

Is this justice, my friend? I think not.

It's not easy to know who you are writing about here, just so you know. I think this is a side discussion about a dentist who someone (?you?) previously referenced but here, now, as your comment reads in isolation, it sounds like you're referring to one of the Alvinos or something.

Bad judgement!? Bad judgement is feeding yourself chocolate when you're supposed to be on a diet. This girl was an accessory to a crime that resulted in DEATH! Maybe you haven't been a teenager in awhile, but community service would have little impact, if any, to Hall. These unfortunate - but AVOIDABLE - events occur often due to teenagers believing there are no SERIOUS consequences for their SERIOUS actions. TO JAIL SHE GOES! And to whomever posted about Carlee being drunk in the road - Did you attend Alvino's sentencing? Did you even read the affidavit?? He wasn't even driving in the proper lane when he struck her - great job pointing fingers at the VICTIM!

He donated to charities? So what. He was probably looking for a tax break. Please, you can come up with something better that this.

The killer was Alvino. He should've been the focus. He did get a slap on the wrist. But I wouldn't say "they". Only one person was responsible, Alvino.
Uh, no-- Hall told him to drive off-- she's an accessory-- she should have stopped him from leaving the scene of the crime, therefore, she is also Carlee's murderer

highly doubtful. her friends were there when it happened and actually there was a cop nearby if i remember correctly, so the response to the accident was immediate. the force of the accident is what killed her, not the time spent in the street. that being said, alvino deserved more, hall deserves the plea deal. she was (i'm sure) drunk and didnt know what was going on (not that that's an excuse for anything, but at least she wasn't the one drunk driving). she said something stupid, and like the friends in the backseat (who arent going to jail for their involvement) freaked out when alvino's parents told them to remain silent.

although, come to think of it, the morning after proceedings, when she ushered everyone home IS a little shady. at the point she was sober and should have realized she was making a big mistake. it's a very complicated case for everyone involved really.

Alvino, Hall and Alvino's parents will surely rot in h-ell for this murder and cover-up. The justice system in Allegany County is all about money. They got twice the fine that some St. Bonaventure students receive when they are caught for having kegs and being too loud. It is absoutely corrupt, and I wish something could be done about it.
The whole point of plea deals in general is to save money. Justice is absolutey absent and my heart goes out to Carly's family. Hall does not have anything to worry about as far as a job goes in the future, since momy and daddy are millionaires, as are the Alvinos.
Alvino and Hall should both be locked away for as long as possible, and then forced to be a registered murderer wherever they live in the future.
What a disgrace to mankind.

I went to high school with Carlee. I still can't believe she's dead, and I don't think I ever will. I wish I could meet Anthony Alvino and Michelle Hall. I would love to tell them what disgusting human beings they are and how I WISH more than anything in this world that it was them and not her that got taken away. Michelle SHOULD have gotten charged. When someone is in a situation and they dont know what to do, they turn to people they care about for guidance. Anthony was confused, and asked his girlfriend what he should do. If this were me and my boyfriend, I would have been flipping out and JUMPED out of the car to see how the person on the floor was, I dont care if I was drunk, sober, high, or WHATEVER. I wouldnt care if I was going to get in trouble, I would care that there was an innocent, defenseless human being laying on the ground, hurt, because of stupid decisions. But Michelle Hall must not have a soul because she told him to go. What if Anthony had shot someone in the face and she helped him clean up and didnt tell anyone about it? Then you would all be singing a different tune. She was still an accomplice. Theyre both disgusting and should have gotten MUCH harsher sentences. They just do not deserve to be out enjoying their lives and partying when this beautiful angel is gone because of them, and a VERY sweet and caring boy lost the love of his life.

you seem angry, yet misinformed. It's a tragic situation- the death of a friend is always painful and depressing, and I am sorry for your loss. Please don't judge the driver/passengers so harshly, find out all facts on the sobriety of all parties involved- it played a significant role in the sentences, and will be a horrible tattoo to all parties involved forever. Channel your anger towards preventing drunk walking/driving on campus, make a difference!!
