Noone in the car thought they should stop and see if the girl needed help. Who brought them up? The Alvino parents are among the worst of our citizens and only fined?

Ms. Hall is a tramp and should do hard time. There seems to be no project of understanding or remorse from any of these clowns. Including the wheel mans parents. what have we become s people?

"It was after an evening of drinking that Alvino's Nissan Armada SUV struck Wines about 2 a.m. Jan. 20, 2007, as she tried to cross North Eagleville Road on the Storrs campus..."
Nothing will excuse fleeing the scene, but we are missing lots of relevant information. Was Wines drunk herself (she was out at 2am after all)? Did she lurch out into the road? Was she wearing dark clothing? We just don't have enough information to know if under the circumstances she would have been struck and killed by a stone cold sober driver who happened to be on the road at the same time and place. Therefore, from the facts as we know them, what is clearly inexcusable is the coverup, not necessarily the killing. Does anyone remember being 19? Kids panic. Do we want to ruin their lives? Does anyone think they had malice in their hearts or were they just typically narcissistic college students? How many of you are ready to pay more taxes to build more prisons and hire more guards? |

The answer is very simple:JAIL. She is an adult that knew better. She chose to let this poor girl die. JAIL. Judge Sullivan knows what to do and he will do what is right.

She should pay with time.

Youse people better pipe down. The Halls and Alvinos are family. We don't like all this nasty talk about family.
Zip it or expect a visit from Vito and Tony. |
|
And to what do you base this theory on? |
|
And we're sure if YOU or someone close to you commited a crime you would run right down the police station, turn yourself in and plead guilty and ask for the maximum penalty. Loser. |

Bring Vito Lay and Tony Bologne, along for the party, I'm sure there's gonna be one soon in Jersery |
What was this dentist's past history, what was his record and character? These things come into play when sentences are handed down. |

If these ''murderers'' could dunk a basketball, etc. many people here would be all for them getting a break.

This is just another argument in favor of minimum sentencing. If you break the law and are found guilty, you should be given 1 appeal, if you lose the appeal the minimum sentence would be handed down. That includes all violations of all the laws. Motor vehicle, drug, and any other laws on the books. This should apply to ALL those who break the law. Example: If you have 1 ounce of marijuana, you lose.

If this happened in the Waterbury area, things would be different. much better state's attorney in wtby......

You can't compel a defendant to incriminate him- or herself. To all of you who want to lock all these people up, how are we supposed to pay for all of their prison stays? You are probably the same people who complain about taxes and the lack of state services. |

She "Ms. Hall" should do the time after all she was part and parcel to the crime. As for Alvino's parents there crime was in the state of New York - I have to believe that if they lived in CT things would be a lot different.
Now as for the poster who was wondering if the victim could have been drunk and stumbled into the path of the SUV - Wow what are you drinking? Evidently you haven't been following this case in the news. I suggest you do some home work before you post a comment that makes you look like a fool. |

WINES WAS A VICTIM OF THIS CRIME AND IT WAS A CRIME NOT AN ACCIDENT. IT BECAME A CRIME WHEN THESE CRIMINALS CHOSE TO DRINK AND DRIVE. IT WAS A CRIME WHEN THEY CHOSE TO LEAVE WINES TO DIE RATHER THAN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS.
A STONE COLD SOBER PERSON WOULD HAVE STOPPED TO HELP WINES, NOT LEAVE HER DYING IN THE ROAD. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED AN ACCIDENT NOT A CRIME IF THEY HAD NOT LEFT HER DYING IN THE ROAD. YES, I DO REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE 19 BUT I WAS RAISED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY ACTIONS. I WAS NOT RAISED TO LEAVE A PERSON DYING IN THE ROAD AFTER A NIGHT OF DRINKING. I HAVE A NIECE ATTENDING UCONN AND I WOULD NOT WANT THESE CRIMINALS (AND THEY ARE CRIMINALS) TO KILL HER AFTER A NIGHT OF DRINKING. THEY ARE CRIMINALS AND SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OR PLEAD GUILTY THEN THEY SHOULD GO TO JAIL. IF THAT MEANS THEIR LIVES ARE RUINED, TOO BAD. MISS WINES IS DEAD AND THEY DESERVE WHATEVER PUNISHMENT THE JUDGE GIVES THEM. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF MISS WINES WAS DRUNK OR WHETHER SHE WAS WEARING DARK CLOTHES. SHE WAS A VICTIM NOT A CRIMONAL.

I wholeheartedly agree with you! It was motor with a motor vehicle. I really think that money played a big role in this case. Hall's parents are loaded and I heard that they said money wasn't an object and they would do what they needed to protect their son. Shame on them! I hope that they dont have a daughter! This beautiful young girl gone..... |
|
I agree.I drive on the Storrs campus all the time and the students just step into the road - they don't use crosswalks and they don't look.Maybe community service at a rehab hospital would be more appropriate than jail for a teenager with bad judgment. |

I have been involved in the Juvenile justice system and the Judges there hold these kids more responsible for their actions than the adult courts do. These people (all involved, including parents) should be judged much more harshly. This girl died!!!! It is so hard to understand why they are getting slaps on the wrists.

If anyone actually thinks this plea deal will be rejected by the judge, they've got another thing coming. Judges in CT take their orders from the criminals, not from us. I'm betting the judge might even impose a more lenient sentence than the plea deal!
