Full story: National Public Radio

Lone Star Nation: Today, the Texas capitol flies both the American and Texas flags, but after independence the Lone Star flag would fly on its own.

You guys need to read the crap. It's all from Austin liberals scared to death, that the rest of us might decide to go that route.....All that crap is just that, crap. If we decided to go it alone, we'd lose 5 million pos libs, who would bail, and the rest of us would do what we had to do. Please do not underestimate Texas.

When Texas first became a state back in the middle 1800's, they required a provision in the US "pact" (or whatever it was called), that they have the right of succession. But I sincerly doubt that succession would be approved by the citizens of Texas and/or the US Supreme Court in today's world.

Texas's electrical power grid was originally setup to be self-sustaining, but that has changed over the years. In Las Cruces, NM (where I live), we get our power from El Paso Electric who gets most of their power from the Arizona Nuclear Power Plant. Eastern New Mexico also get their power from Amarillo, TX, so Texas is now to intertwined with the national power grid to just pull out now.

You know the same thing is said about Az supporting LA with electricity. That wouldn't be an issue. It would be political and mostly about money. The lib writer whines about money for highways. Well, if we stopped sending money to DC, we'd have money for highways....As far as legal secession goes, I agree, it wont happen. But it is already happening in the main way, money.

The Fed taxes we pay on fuel is spent by D.C. as fast as they receive it, just like SS funds. And they want us to trust them? I can't find any reason to do so.

Yeah, I agree that money or the lack thereof would be the primary concern of Washington, DC and Austin. Washington would throw a major hissy fit if Texas even considered doing such a thing (worse even than the immigration laws like Arizona's). But if Texas did succeed, I'd move about 25 miles east of here to Anthony, Texas and tell them all to "bite my butt".

You just proved another of my arguments. The 5 million, or so, libs here that would bail, would be replaced in no time.

Think about the money we'd have if we stopped sending foreign aid to countries that hate us and don't use it at it was intended.

No way. They joined the UNION because they were flat broke anmd if they secede again they would have 30 percent unemployment rate due to loss of jobs from the military and federal jobs. Most TEXANS dont support it and those that do have an ALAMO complex.

and your eyes are brown. What happened back then doesn't mean anything. We're going to lose the military anyway under your obamommie....Federal jobs, ha, they can leave with the libs.....You know nothing about Texas and your Alamo complex sounds like more liberal jibberish. Pure "deflection with communistic intent".

On ocassion, when I don't have anything real serious on my mind, I go get into declassified government documents. I just love to compare what the great politicians said to the public on one day, and thirty to forty years later what they really thought on memos and recorded conversations.

Robert Kennedy once said, "Don't get angry, get even." Now the politicians have us talking in hate mode. Do you have any idea what they are doing while we are engaging in the 'hate debate' distraction? It would make your hair stand up on the back of your neck.

As much as I hate saying this, I wouldn't be surprised at anything our politicians are up to. They like to claim that they are only looking out for the citizens, but I feel like they are only out for themselves and the citizens be damned.
