He's far from left leaning. Libertarians are not dems. This man was on Clinton like stink on crap during the Clinton troubles. You would think he was right winger, but he's not.

Before that it was Truth or Consequences. And by the way, John McCain starred in McCain's Navy.

This hurt McCain. Barr is libertarian for sure. But some uninformed will think he's conservative.
Bob Barr is to the right of Louis XIV. So he ain't exactly a liberal. But his opposition to the Iraq invasion, perhaps for different reasons than my own, makes me consider him an ally. To the extent that he hurts McCain's chances, he is a great American.

His blasting of Bush and Iraq are just as passionate as his hatred of Clinton during his term.

I think he does pull more votes from McCain then he would Hillary. But I'm thinking with Obama being black, Barr could get that block that Hillary was counting on if he says the right soundbites.

I've heard that description before. It has some merit on the results, not sure if its the incentive though.

I'm no libertarian. But I can understand the philosophy of very little government interference in our lives but the it wouldn't work if pushed ot it's extreme.

I have a libertarian friend. He's against all taxes. I ask, then how do we support our military needs and highway system for instance.

He saids "well, ok, we'd need taxes for that, but only what's needed"

Then I ask, about taxes for other U.S. incentives, and its the same sorta answers. Tells me you can never take that philosphy to it's extremes. I may have a bad understanding of it. If so, I'm sure I'll be corrected.

When did he leave the Baath Party? I see he still wears the party mustache, though.

Disenchanted ultra-conservatives will either (1) not vote or (2) vote for Chuck Baldwin.

McCain is in trouble and he doesn't even know it.

How did we finance those things before 1913?

Easy, taxes....but they were indirect (excises) taxes. What was ratified in 1913 by the 16th Amendment was "INCOME" taxes.

Are you assuming there were no taxes before Income Taxes?

I dont see him as a factor once they know his back ground. Now Flap Jack Bauer is getting into the race.. Then there is the problem of getting on the ticket in all of the states and money. All of them put together would not even come close to Perot.
i won't vote for obama at this point because he lacks a plan-experience-patriotism and has ties to racists if he isn't one and muslim extremists ie his family. i could care less if he was purple. don't know why suddenly everone has decided if you won't vote for him it is because he is black.

Actually, those who are voting for him know that the reasons you give are lies, and conclude from the available evidence that you are a racist. After all, repeating lies is evidence of .....something.

Stupidity or racism?

I'm not assuming anything. I know there were taxes before 1913 and I know they were not income taxes (which by the way is theft, but we'll leave that for another board). My point is... those who want to roll back and/or largely eliminate our current tax structure are not clueless. Alternative means of raising revenue exist, just as they existed before the 16th amendment.

I just wish more people would think outside the box. Rather than figure out how we're going to sustain government in its current form, we should figure out how to reduce government. And I'm not talking about Jimmy Carter disposing of the presidential yacht; I'm talking about reduction on a grand scale.
