Scott, I was wondering if you've had any luck importing paper? I'm also interested in paper import options, years back I had a great UK source for importing plates/film and saved a some big $'s! If you have any advice I would welcome it, also if I find any information I'll forward it on. Thanks Scott!

Paper imported from China and Indonesia got hit with anti-subsidy duties back in 2010, so you can probably expect that the prices may not be all that wonderful. The argument is obviously that the large amount of imports hurts American born paper companies and that the Trade Commission wants people to buy from local companies.

As far as companies that have good paper prices, I'm not too sure, but it appears as though the party is over for paper being imported from China and Indonesia. I think Malaysia was mentioned above and that might be the best bet.

In all honesty I don't know the figures associated with importing paper from these areas, but I have to imagine that the price may come out to be comparable to that of domestic paper companies.

American Pad & Paper, owned by Bain Capital, told all 258 workers they were fired. Security guards hustled them out of the building. They would be able to reapply for their jobs, at lesser wages and benefits, but not all would be rehired.

Outsourcing has long been a problem for American workers and it extends to basically every industry imaginable. Yep, the paper will be cheaper, but stateside jobs will suffer as a result. Weigh the pros and cons.

I have to agree with Graphics Portland. I really thought this industry would be safe from outsourcing, but I guess I was wrong...
