They will be missed as they are a part of Enka/Candler.

Still don't feel it's the cost...thanks residents of Biltmore Lake. Hope the noise doesn't disrupt your morning.

Amen to that, Reader! The stacks became an eye-sore for the "elite" of Enka (Biltmore) Lake I suppose.

Not only will the stacks be missed-but the good jobs they symbolised, before a prosperous economy meant something other than upscale housing and retail.
Our loss of industry that made or grew something will come back to bite us someday. American Enka was a good corporate citizen whose closure still hurts two states.

Are you stupid or what. If you read the first article it was an aggreement with BASF and the city that once it closed that the stack would come down. In Biltmore Lake AKA Enak Lake they love the stacks are a landmark!

In Erie Pennsylvania they saved the smoke stacks from a coal fired power plant on the waterfront because of "heritage". Anyone here live down wind from smoke stacks? What do they stand for?

Still, it smells of Biltmore politics. We wouldn't want something like the smokestacks to remind those hardly-working snobs that people actually have to work to make a living, now would we?
Oh, BTW, ADQ, if you're so high minded and have the sort of cash to blow in those pretentious, over-priced, snooty places in Biltmore Village, then you've got one helluvan ego on you. It's pretentious boors like you that give this city a bad name. Get a job!

Work for a living? How do you think they afford those homes? Living off welfare? This is how it works, work hard in school go to a good college work hard there find a good job or start your business. You see you are one of the kids who never studied and never made it in life. You think life owes you a good living? Stop whining and make something from this life.

I think they should have painted them & added artificial foliage to make them look like like huge redwood trees. Why not? Everything about the "new" Asheville is phony, anyway.

I've been away from Asheville for about 15 years, so maybe y'all can help me. Is Enka now near Biltmore? When I was a kid, Enka was some redneck place far away from Biltmore.

The whole site is located on a swamp. Maybe now that its usefulness is over, maybe it can go back to nature. Enka was our bread and butter for most of my life. It is a sad day today.

I don't live in Biltmore Lake--no where near there actually but the entire BASF place is an eyesore. I can't wait until the whole ugly conglomeration of buildings is GONE. Seriously people, what there is worth preserving except maybe the clock tower?

What's with all the jealousy over Biltmore and The Cliffs--if you want to live there then work a little harder and move there. The whining is getting redundant.
