The call came in around 9 p.m. near the Luck Stone Quarry on Richmond Road. Albemarle police say the scene is several miles off the highway and it took quite some time for police and rescuers to get to the train. Full Story

Instances like this happen probably because this person was in pain, she had a mental illness possibly. To insinuate that she was stupid is extremely tasteless and hurtful. Shame on you.

.From the comments I've read she's needed help for awhile. Why weren't you there for her?

In the animal world humans have the an uncanny ability to find ways to destroy themselves, either on a solitary bases or as a group. With a pill or an atom bomb. The sorrow lies in the fact that we do nothing to help ourselves.

It says she doesn't have a fixed address. That tells alot. Her family or relatives didn't care about her to have a roof over her head! Was she homeless? She was only 18, still a child. How sad.

This had to be a suicide. Thats loud old jointed clickety-clack track (compared to modern welded rails).

Its not hard to outsmart a train. Just step off the track, this was likely suicide.

I think it is really sad how people are today! This young girl is gone and she had 2 parents who dearly loved her, along with lots of friends. Kim was a very good friend of my daughters and she had problems, as we ALL do, she just had a tougher time dealing with her's. Have some compassion for this childs parents and save your stupid comments for someone who wants to listen to them. I lost a 16 year old son to a heart attach 7 years ago and to loose a child is probably the most HORRIBLE ting any parent has to deal with. So show this family some rspect PLEASE!!!!!

Just because she chose the road to being homeless doesnt mean her family didnt care, alot of 18 years olds, young adults chose to rebel . A young life is lost, very sad, according to my son who was a friend, she has been dealing with emotional issues that she would not let anyone try to help her out. My prayers to her family, her friends, and all those who knew her. Stop judging, why not be compassionate and take a moment to look at some of the young homeless ones. They are troubled and sometimes just need to know someone cares.

What a heartless community we live in, apparently. Most of these comments are either sick "jokes" or worse. To me, the girl's death is sad, and the fact that an 18-year old had "no fixed address" is sad, too.
It's not the community. There a lot of people that comment on here every now and then and a lot of those people make good points or raise good questions. Most of the negative comments come from the same people that are always on here in most stories. They are the hateful pathetic losers that spend all day think ing of how to hurt and hate others. Some are even the same persons with multiple names. LOSERS with nothing else to do,

It reminds me of the young girl, one of the gutter punks, who was killed at the water tower by the tracks downtown some years ago. In that case, unruly,, parents coudn't deal with her (but she was a minor) started going her own way and hanging out with some of the homeless, transient, subculture criminal crazies that we have more of today. Maybe it's not the same, but this isn't a memorial page. It's where people come to comment on the little bit of twisted truth we can find in news. Maybe there is a larger issue here, having to do with nearby bum encampments. Maybe the parents messed up, maybe she was off her mess. There are usually reasons, and there are no accidents.

nobody saw this coming?

i pick up another bottle
Im thinking about letting go of it all
will i go home or is there rules
will you be there when i call
The empty threats cause him to pull the trigger
he let those gun shells run dry
he watched as the sun grew bigger
then he watched as his woman cried
she walked to his funeral the very next day
and she cried that she never wanted him to leave
she said that she couldnt stay away
so she pulled that trigger and her mom began to scream
goodbye she wrote in her note
i will always think about you
she said what caused her to let go
was that she loved him and couldnt wait to see him soon

While each and everyone one of you has the constitutionally guaranteed liberty to free speech, the gutter-sniping directed to Kimberly ( and yes that was her name!) is uncalled for.

Think of this: she was only on this planet a mere 216 months. That sounds pretty short term doesnt it? You didnt know Kimberly and for that matter neither did I.

But what I do know is that she was young, had a life ahead of her and now she doesnt. A sad end for someone that had people who loved her.

Ironic that you post that, as this is one of the few threads that have no been filled with finger pointing and crucifying the dead. It's pretty apparent the masses blame the friends and family for not helping remove her from what was obviously a dangerous, and mind altering situation.
She obviously was spending time with her father and trying to get her life on track, but it appears the damage was already done.
