Buy a Digital Cable Ready television.

They don't require a box. It is only for customers who don't own a Digital Cable Ready Television.

Click link for info about Digital Cable Ready televisions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_cable_re...

ALSO FYI
Verizon and DirecTV require a box on every TV for every channel.

wow i figured people would bash cablevision. We have FREE HD , fastest internet speeds that only fios tops and constantly adding more FREE HD and people complain.

Try moving to a comcast area then complain how bad cablevision sucks.

Also cablevision is maxing out there network so in order to make room for more channels they have to get rid of the analog ones.

Also you do know thaty verizon fios tv got rid of there analog channels also right? Also that the sat tv companies require a box for every tv also.

so stop complaining.

When government says monoplies are permissible, such as Cablevision on Long Island, consumers are always screwed. Competition always benefits consumers, just look at supermarkets, department stores, and the like. Until government at all levels become honest (what a dream) consumers can expect higher prices for less goods and service.

Cablevision requires a box to receive premium content (which includes such channels as National Geographic and Speed, not just the obvious premiums like HBO) regardless of whether you have a digital cable ready TV.

So far, they have taken a dozen channels out of Family Cable and made them require a set top box.

They are essentially demanding a 25% and greater premium (depending on number of TV's -- each of which now requires a set top box at $8 per month including taxes) to retain the same service as before. Plus one must also buy iO access at $12/month including taxes.

The basic Family Cable rate is now meaningless, since they are in the process of taking away all the channels it "offers".

Cablesuction is a total CONSUMER FRAUD.

Actually they do require a box. Not only are the channels digital but they are encrypted. I have a digital tuner and they are not providing a digital version they are only providing an encrypted digital version. This can only be viewed from their IO boxes and through rented cablecards which cost even more.

This change was nothing more than an attempt to force people to pay an extra, minimum,$16 a month and an additional $6 per tv per month. I know in my household this will almost double, more than 40%, the monthly cost if we want to enjoy the same programming we've been getting since 1990.

And their free box for a year is useless when you consider my house has more than one tv and plans on watching the channels for more than the upcoming year.

I urge everyone to call your local board of utilities and file a complaint because the FCC won't or can't do anything.

Also as of now it hasn't reclaimed any bandwidth because they are broadcasting an analog message on those channels to inform you that you can no longer watch them. This message alone takes up as much bandwidth as the channels did (maybe less audio bandwidth but that clearly isn't the problem).

This is hardly a matter of updating to newer technology they are just using that as a cover for their malicious business practices. Believe me if their boxes were worth even half of what they claim then I, as a strong supporter of the latest technologies, would have already had them. Their DVR boxes are actually illegal!( http://209.20.72.72/?p=1142 )

I gave up on cable several years ago, when the price started heading over $35/month. Why pay to watch the same lame crap over and over again? Hollywood and the TV industry haven't had a novel idea since the 60's.
