Some of my fondest childhood memories involve the sting of the sun on my shoulders and the smell of Coppertone on the beach. Too bad that sun exposure is no longer considered "healthy". I used to love long beach days and getting tan in the summer. I hope that the sign finds a new home; it is a small slice of American culture.

We moved to South Florida in 1957 and as a kid, I can remember this sign when we went "downtown". That used to be such a big deal. I am glad this sign is being refurbished. I also remember that Jodie Foster once posed as the Coppertone Little Girl.

You know, I yearn for the days when looking at a child's butt wasn't considered porn. My mother used to put lacy underpants on me and my dresses were always hemmed short to show my "fancy pants". Back in the good ole days, hey, maybe I am getting old....

I always heard the girl in the sign was Jodie Foster, former Disney child-star. Seems likes she's one of the few child-stars who didn't crack up. Anyone else remember Kurt Russell was a Disney child-star too?

I remember that sign and also the billborad sign by the cloverleaf in the 60' and 70's. Brings back a lot of memories when the beaches were clean and not overcrowded.
My mom once told me that my chilhood baby sitter was the model for the little girl in the drawing when she was little. She was real cute when she was a teenage babysitter. Anyways I think mom was wrong now that I read the column. oh well.
they list her name in this article http://www.sptimes.com/2004/09/05/Floridian/R...

I couldn't agree with you more. The smell of Coppertone brings back priceless memories of lazy summer days at the beach. Mmmm...(:

Finally determined this was inappropriate for the pedophile State egh? She was probably abducted and being held somewhere on S. Beach.

Sad to think that some people regard a child's bare bottom as "porn." Used to be, girls would play in the water topless, and maybe even totally naked, and nobody thought anything of it. Nowadays we're so afraid of perverts that we take down Coppertone ads ... and dress our little girls in bikinis that make them look like Britney Spears. Maybe we have a sick and twisted idea of what's perverted, and what's not?

What's your problem with Latinos? It looks like most of them have a better grasp of the English language than you do.

Well if you see that as porn, you have a sick mind. Probably a pedophile in denial. You are sad and very sick.

Child porn? That's a little extreme... but the old bottomless Coppertone girl was definitely suggestive, if not subliminal. The angle wouldn't allow you to see her little girl chest, and they positioned her right arm at such an angle that it passes for a perfect D-cup breast, ready for action. So you could see it all, T and A! If you can't see the breast, try squinting.

i loved the old adds; and there is no way they can be consideredd porn.

One of my belated bithday cards read: It's a little behind, but hope you had a happy birthday anyway. How can that be porn?

The Coppertone girl on the bottles are now censored. She is completely covered now. If you have any bottles left that show any butt you better keep them for they may be collector's items.
